Terry Gordy vs Killer Khan (Texas Death Match w/ Special Guest Ref Kerry Von Erich - WCCW - 11/22/1984) Classic match. This finished #1 overall on the DVDVR 80s Texas set voting and deservedly so. Khan at his best is one of the most engaging wrestlers ever with an awesome look and some of the best facial expressions ever. Gordy is perfect in this as well and I like Kerry as the guest ref too giving this extra weight. Super gory blade job too. Great shit. Definite contender for my list.

Second
Solid contender on my list. I love me some Terry Gordy, especially when he gets time and space to work like this. Great, wild brawl with lots of blood. Its also a really clear and well told story in the ring. Lots of time for this.

More than deserving of discussion. The best ever Gordy match, the best ever Khan match, the best ever match in Texas. Will probably find its way on to my ballot.

In the rewatch pile, I recognized it as an amazing bloodbath and a great moment (Rocky IV before Rocky IV). It just didn't click it at the tippy top level for me.
Terry Gordy vs Killer Khan - WCCW 11/22/84 Texas Death Match SGR: Kerry Von Erich
World Class' Rocky IV moment that predates Rocky IV by a year as a Freebird and Von Erich shake hands at the end of this bout proving that there is hope for all of us to just get along.
I can totally understand why this finished number one atop the Texas poll even if it will not finish there for me (Top 5, no doubt). This match epitomized everything Texas has been lacking hatred, violence and blood (notable exception the awesome Kerry/Hayes Cage match). Texas (non-NWA Championship matches) is characterized by insane crowd heat, big time babyface offense, lots of heel bumping and feel good matches. I love action blockbuster, popcorn, feel good matches, but there were times when I just wanted the Freebirds/Von Erichs to cut loose and really brawl with each other. As much as I love 7/4/83, the closest they got to that brawl was in 1988, but man alive if they could have done that in 1983 that would have been something else.
The vast majority of Killer Khan's offense was biting the forehead and Asiatic Spikes to the throat of Gordy. Now that's heel offense! This is not a spring brawl, but a war of attrition that feels like a clash of the titans. When Gordy takes for a bit, Khan throws him to the outside smashes his face into the post and Gordy does a big time blade job. Khan gets the first pin with a knee drop, but Gordy makes the ten count. Now it is Gordy's turn to throw Khan out and ram his head into the post busting him open. Gordy nails a piledriver, but now Khan makes the ten count. This is minimalistic brawling at its finest. The suplex struggle between these two bloody warriors late into the bout is a great testament to machismo. Khan misses the kneedrop that won him the first fall. Gordy applies the Oriental Spike to the throat. This is an all time great finish as he digs his thumb into the neck of Khan who is grunting and struggling only to struggle less and less as his life force is being drained. It is pretty poignant. It is Magnum/Tully in its levels of brutality and uncomfortableness. Kerry counts Khan down. Khan is choking and not going to make the ten count, but Akbar interferes to Kerry kicks his ass and now Missing Link. Gordy and Kerry fend off Devastation Inc. Kerry declares Gordy the winner and sticks out his hand. No handshake, Gordy calls Kerry back to the ring ostensibly to rumble, but instead we get the Handshake to end all Handshakes.
The Handshake and Oriental Spike finish with Khan's selling make this an all-time classic. It was just missing a spark from the beginning of the match until the finish. I thought everything was really well-worked from beginning to end, but it could have used just a little more pep. I would say Top 25 US match from the 80s and Top five for Texas, pretty easy. ****3/4

From my rewatch project on 6/26/2018 Terry Gordy vs Killer Khan (Texas Death Match – 11/22/1984) Current Rank: 89 Trending: Down I love Terry Gordy and I am not sure why. I mean, I named my damn dog after him which is pretty stout praise. Maybe it is because I am from a rural area and knew a lot of guys like Terry Gordy. Maybe it is because many of those guys have become my best friends. I always joke that I make sure to have at least one big ass kicker friend in every city I’ve lived in… ya know, just in case. Regardless, Bam Bam has a soft spot in my heart, particularly when he was in his physical prime in the 80s. He is just so much fun to watch. That dude, doing the partying he was doing, should not be able to move like he does. This match has always been a favorite, at least in part, because it is a big one-on-one main event level match where he really gets to flex his in ring chops. He rarely got that in Texas where he was probably hottest in terms of a charicter, though he would get more chance to shine in Mid-South, so this feels like a treat. That all said, I am not sure it is one of the best 100 matches ever. Even at 89, I can’t help but think this winds up slipping down and eventually off the list. I still love it and think it is world class stuff (again, pun intended), but this has moved into fringe territory and will likely be on the outside looking in. At best, this might get one of those final 5 spots reserved for great matches I just personally love. Second. It's bloody great, from the presentation to the turbulent ending sequence, a lot of great stuff packed in 13 minutes.

Terry Gordy vs Killer Khan, WCCW 11/22/84 I believe I had this #1 on the DVDVR Texas set and was blown away by it then. It stands up as great but next to all of the GME candidate matches I’ve been watching it falls down a bit. I actually found the thirty-second breaks leading to the ten-counts took from the match a bit and the blading breaks on the floor were pretty blatant but that’s the 80s for you. That being said, the action was fun and they worked great together with wild punches. Should make my list, if not high.
