Two big Undertaker vs. Michaels matches were nominated and I'll do it for this one. It's Undertaker putting up The Streak against the man he's never beat. A notable exchange: Taker going for the chokeslam which Michaels responds to with SCM, Undertaker sees it coming and falls to the mat, Michaels Figure Four attempt is countered with Hell's Gate and Michaels frantically gets to the rope. This is the match where Taker's dive over the rope goes badly wrong and he spikes his head into the floor making an imprint. The rest of the match is a mixture of finishers and counters of them with Undertaker going 17-0. Match gets bonus credit as it and Ricky Steamboat's performance are the only things worth watching.

Second. While I think it's a bit over-glorified, I don't get the hate surrounding it. It's a really great match with a great story. Not sure if it will make my list, but definitely up for consideration and is possibly the best match of 2009.

I'll nominate this. I think this probably won't make my list but it's a huge favourite for many WWE fans so I think it wouldn't be right to not consider it. I actually do think this a top-tier classic match for the first 20 minutes or so, right up until Taker chokeslams Shawn. If it'd ended within a minute or two of that I'd probably like it more, but the 10 minutes of very rehearsed finisher>nearfall>sell on floor exchanges was overkill.

The first half was pretty great with the power vs smarts dynamic with Shawn adding cool heelish touches and his desperation was great. The second half doesn't do anything for me but I get why people might like it. Good match but I think their rematch and the 97 HIAC smoke this.

From my rewatch project on 8/16/2018 Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels (4/5/2009)Current Rank: NR Trending: Even I said earlier that this match held up better than I expected, that I liked it more on this go around than I ever have before. Before this I always preferred at least the second HBK/Taker match and the Punk match to this in terms of my favorite “Streak Matches”. That changed here. Maybe my tastes are changing a bit, but I got why the WWE champions this match so much, why it is put in the pantheon of the all time greats for them and for so many others. That said, this still has no chance of making my list. I really like it. I think it’s a great match with lots of drama. It is a great performance from both men. It really plays up the stakes of the match and the history between Taker and HBK in a way that accents the action in the ring and I love that. I also really like the way it moves from cat and mouse to two all time greats throwing everything they have at one another. It just doesn’t connect with me the way some other matches do. It just doesn’t highlight some of the features of wrestling that I prefer. I wouldn’t bat an eye if this was on someone’s list. I wouldn’t even really bat an eye if it were #1, but it’s staying off my list. Full Post Can Be Found Here: gweproject.freeforums.net/post/2888/thread

After 35 years in broadcasting or whatever, Jim Ross can finally say "school" properly.
ANyway, I've always dug this one & it's still a good time. Could've been shorter but that's how big matches go.

I voted this #67 this year.
I'll confess, I was too cowardly err, busy to rewatch this for the project to stack it up directly against other GME contenders, but it's a match I've always loved. Michaels and Undertaker have always had a great dynamic and I thought they did a fine job in the first half of the match presenting Michaels as credibly competing with 'Taker through his wiles and superior quickness, but ultimately outmatched due to his opponent's raw size and strength advantage. Taker's (in)famous dive to the outside was a great spot on paper to transition into the business end: Undertaker crashing and burning on a high risk move works as a perfect 'equaliser', the damage sustained offsetting Michaels' weaker offence to make a Taker defeat suddenly credible. (Plus it was a cute callback to the original HiaC match with the camera man I guess.) The fact that the dive was botched so nastily obviously must have sucked like Hell for Taker but it served to add even more drama to the final straight than could have been expected. He really was hurt, he really did feel in jeopardy. Maybe a superkick really could put him down now.
Finishing stretch goes too long - yeah, that's probably true. But it's a showcase Wrestlemania match, there are gonna be a bunch of near-falls. And some of them here were great - Taker catching Michaels skinning the cat in particular. Plus, the longer these guys went, the longer the live crowd were spared from watching the HHH-Orton main event, so there was a philanthropic benefit too.
