Genichiro Tenryu & Stan Hansen vs Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu (Real World Tag Leauge - AJPW - 12/6/89) Another classic match from the short lived Hansen & Tenryu team. This is such a great match with Hansen & Tenryu beating the absolute shit out of Yatsu and attempting to give him CTE. Just brutal kicks, stromps, elbows and headbutts to the brain. This is Jumbo smack in the middle of his peak and he is fucking awesome matching Tenryu & Hansen (!!!!) for stiffness and doing all of the great grumpy Jumbo things everyone is familiar with. I am in love with the finish of this and remember rewinding the finish over and over when I first saw this years ago.

Second
What a match. This one of those matches that is almost exhausting to me. It is just so brutal and sometimes hard to watch, but at the same time it sucks you in. I am actually someone who I think overemphasizes the finish (particularly when I am thinking about "great matches") and this one really does deliver. I am going to be fascinated to see how lots of these big tag matches from different places wind up placing.

This is gonna be on my list. Phenomenal heat segment with Yatsu getting beat down. The match feels like is builds up and up until the finish coming right at a crescendo. Has any team in any match ever felt more deserving of a win than Jumbo and Yastu here?

Love this match. Hansen and Tenryu are just relentless going after Yatsu’s head with some dangerous looking stuff. Jumbo comes in and is an amazing hot tag, pissed off and on fire. It was so sweet when Yatsu gets some revenge on Hansen, and when Hansen is busted open it fees like his team is in real trouble. Some insane sequences down the stretch before Hansen pulls out the heart breaking lariat. Great performances from all four and a top notch match.

A great match with a pace that alternated throughout as opposed to a steady build. Yatsu came in wearing headgear that Hansen ripped off early on. After quite a while of Hansen and Tenryu working the had, Yatsu went to the floor and got taped up while Tenryu played ace-in-peril. Yatsu got the hot tag and the pace was kept up for the rest of the match with Tenryu and Hansen pushing through for the win.

I voted this #16 this year.
I have this as the best tag match of the 80s. Absolute war of a match, a great heavyweight contest full of struggle and hefty blows, plus the memorable hook of Yastu having his head worked over after his protective gear is ripped off. All 4 men are on fine form, with no weak links in the pairings. This just builds and builds as the face team several times fight back from dire predicaments but the heels are relentless and allow no respite (especially to poor Yatsu). Great finish as well to cap it off.
