Started watching the Eddie Gilbert series. The I Quit match at Battle of the Belts might be my favorite Funk match that didn't have Flair, Hansen, or Lawler in it. His selling can still be a bit over the top but his charm and commitment to it all is pretty tremendous. The more I watch of him the more I draw a lot of comparisons to Dustin Rhodes, at least as far as his later career goes. His 90's and 2000's stuff may not necessarily have a ton of classics, but they're all just really fun, entertaining watches. The WCW Hardcore Title stuff is delightful. Boss, since you liked the Funk/Gilbert matches, I wanted to encourage you (and everyone) to check out the mid 90s Funk vs Sabu rivalry. Everyone knows the barbed wire match, but there's some awesome forgotten stuff before that. These 3 are all fantastic matches id highly recommend. www.youtube.com/watch?v=us_O-vH0mIkwww.youtube.com/watch?v=kDWHl8b8TdYwww.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv0gvXZh98k

Today is my birthday. Watch a Terry Funk match you've never seen before and tell me about it!

The Funk-Sabu chain match you recommended. Terry looks like at one point he's attempting a kip-up but just flops his legs up. Either that or he was selling. Either way, fun match. His moonsault certainly wasn't graceful but it looked effective.

Today is my birthday. Watch a Terry Funk match you've never seen before and tell me about it! The Funks v Giant Baba & Antonio Inoki 8/4/70 I wanted to see if Terry ever wrestled Inoki on tape and this is the first thing that came up, 2/3 falls in Tokyo for the NWA tag team title. I’ve not seen Terry with blonde hair before. Skinny Dick Murdoch vibes. The Funks are sporting some extra snazzy jackets. Fun match. At one point, Dory gets tangled upside down on the turnbuckle and Terry does a bump over him to the floor. Dory inexplicably throws the ref out of the ring and that’s the first fall for Baba & Inoki. The Texans come back in the second fall but Baba is able to submit Terry. The Funker jaws with the ref after the bell. A fine way to spend fifteen minutes.
