Greatest tag team name of all time and it suited the two hosses so well. Dr. Death and Terry Gordy were big bad dudes. I usually found their work in the states wanting, but they have their share of bangers for sure. I'm wondering what people's favorite MVC matches are and if any are serious considerations for your list.

Is it the best tag team name ever though? Or does it just look sound/look cool? Like what does it even mean? "The Funk Brothers" is an underrated awesome tag team name. The Road Warriors, Faces of Fear & Midnight Express are all super cool team names that all make more sense to me than "Miracle Violence Connection." As far as their best matches, I agree about them being a little disappointing (boring) in the states, but I think the Steiners Clash match is probably my favorite match from MVC. There's a match from 1990 or 1991 AJPW they had against Hansen & Spivey that I remember really liking and was probably the last match great all gaijin match in 90s AJPW. I think 91.

I think it is hands down the best tag team name of all time. I am not even sure it means anything other than it being cool words that vaguely fit together and somehow vaguely describe the two men. I really want to get a Miracle Violence Connection shirt. I should just make one.

The Miracle Violence Connection name was a takeoff of Miracle Power Combination, the name of the Hansen/Brody team. It's a shame that such an awesome name was wasted on such a dull team. They were certainly capable of delivering exciting finishing runs, but the bulk of their matches more often than not consisted of them sitting in holds that were neither interesting in their own right nor did much to advance the story of the match.

I wish more tag teams were named like that. I feel similarly about the Holy Demon Army. Indy tag teams need to pick this type of name of.
Sacred Decapitation Crew
Revered Brutality (Wo)Men
Marvelous Slaughter Duo
Heralded Murder Brigade

I watched both MVC/HDA matches as part of my HDA deep dive, and I remain convinced that the MVC are the most consistently underwhelming "great" tag team of all time. It's always the same problem: they control way too much of the match and their work on top isn't interesting at all. Long control segments can work if the heel team delivers a serious beating or peppers in enough hope spots to keep things interesting. But the MVC mainly work their opponents over with generic clubbering and basic holds like half crabs and front facelocks. Again, their finishing runs were usually great, but everything leading up to them was more often than not a chore to get through. Based on the comments in the PWO match discussion section, I'm far from an outlier in that assessment. So does anybody here actually want to stick up for their work in the ring and not just talk about how cool their name is?

I will say their feud with each other in Mid-South might be my favorite singles feud either guy was ever a part of. Obviously its not Freebirds vs Von Erichs, but I'm struggling to think of a singles feud Gordy was part of that I liked more.

I've enjoyed their presence, physicality yet willingness to bump. They're sort of back on my radar as a team I'll have to think about for the Tag Team Poll

Since posting this I've watched every Williams & Gordy match through May 1991 & they have delivered in every match regardless of opponents. vs Jumbo & Taue, vs Kroffat & FUrnas, vs Hansen & Spivey, vs Misawa & Kobashi, vs MIsawa & Kawada, vs Malenko Brothers, vs Baba & Andre etc. It's a really wide variety of opponents in terms of style, placement in the hierarchy, experience & skill level and Williams & Gordy well with all of them. Seriously go watch that match vs the Malenko's. It's 20+ minutes and way better than you'd ever expect. I even braved Jim Ross commentary & watched the Clash & GAB matches vs the Steiners and those are also excellent. They feel & work like a team, have great offense, can bump & put people over.
This idea that they're boring must come from later matches because for the first year plus of their run they look like one of the best teams of all time.

1993 is the main reason why they're consider boring and 1992 wasn't as good as the previous two years.

To be fair the matches they get slated for are the tag titles bouts against Misawa & Kawada and then Taue & Kawada in 1993. And now I'm keen to find out if you're gonna continue your MVC love and go against the consensus on them, or blame Kawada lol.
