Great list! We have 30+ matches overlapping currently. I'll try and watch some of the more interesting picks like PAC vs Cassidy and Oney vs Sullivan before submitting my list. I swear by the PAC/OC match. I think it’s a fantastic match that doesn’t have to be considered a comedy match because there’s nothing about it that’s not plausible but if you think of it as a comedy match, I’d like to think it’s the greatest comedy match ever because of how well the straight man plays it off and how each bit is paid off perfectly. As for Oney/Lars… there’s a lot of Oney Lorcan matches in 2017 that I call “the Oney special.” This is the most concise. It’s a sub-five minute match that feels like a complete match. I have a bias toward shorter matches but this is complete in addition to be compact.

I watched Oney vs Lars and I really enjoyed it for what it is. It won't make my list, but it's a damn fine squash. Oney is a great talent. Always fought with a lot of fire and he'd fit in any promotion as a jobber to the stars. Oney also had an absolute cracker with Drew McIntyre just after he returned to WWE that's well worth seeing if you are a fan of his.

The Drew match is my #2. I wanted to include it especially because there’s blood in that one. Ultimately. I might try to put it on my next list but I just tested the waters because I realized when I put a match like that on a list like this that high that it stands out and probably draws some ire. These two matches are both amazing as was his work with Andrade around the same time.

It's too bad David Starr turned out to be so awful, because the Starr-Orange Cassidy match is far far superior to the PAC one.

What a great and genuine list! You made me realize that I should have rewatched the Dragon/Shima match from Final Battle and the Punk/Joe III, maybe next year I can add those two in my list.
It's nice to see Walter/Allin in your list too!

Darren you lunatic. This list is all over the place and I love it.
3. Samoa Joe v. CM Punk (ROH - 12/4/2004) Nice! I love this series. I haven't given any of them serious consideration in a while, but maybe I will for next time. Punk's current run has made me want to revisit some of his great old stuff.
6. Bryan Danielson v. Takeshi Morishima (ROH - 12/27/2008) Love it. This is a monster rating for this match and I'm 100% here for it.
17. Shinobu Kandori v. Akira Hokuto (AJW - 12/6/1993) 18. Shinobu Kandori v. Akira Hokuto (AJW - 4/2/1993) You god damned savage.
19. Sangre Chicana v. MS-1 (EMLL - 9/23/1983) 20. Eddie Guerrero v. JBL (WWE - 5/16/2004) This stretch of 18-20 is my wheelhouse
27. Oney Lorcan v. Lars Sullivan (WWE - 9/27/2017) My good... this man is a monster. Lars Sullivan in the top 30. haha. I do love this match and Lorcan was on a tear at the time.
45. CM Punk v. Eddie Kingston (AEW - 11/13/2021) Holy shit. This match is going to do alright this year on the overall list.
63. Giant Baba v. Fritz Von Erich (JWA - 12/3/1966) YES!
68. ROH v. CZW: Cage of Death (7/15/2006) I need to watch this again. I'm not sure I have since 2006 or 2007. It gets a lot of love and maybe I need to give it some serious consideration.
71. Kenta Kobashi v. Yoshihiro Takayama (AJPW - 5/26/2000) Love this match. Glad to see it get a spot on your list.
85. Bryan Danielson v. Minoru Suzuki (AEW - 10/15/2021) Wow... I'm loving the 2021 votes I'm seeing this year. I love this match so much. I like it when people are even higher than me on things I think I am abnormally high on
100. Andre The Giant v. Hulk Hogan (WWF - 3/29/1987) This is a great #100 pick.

My Top 20 looked a lot different most of the year. I went all-in on putting my favorite matches super high.

For once I won't be the lone voter on ROH-CZW!

Im going to restart my rewatching for 2023 in this thread. I’m going to cover a group of matches at a time and see where they fit in a list. My last rewatch project thread was a haphazard mess from the start. If I could get a moderator to get rid of that rewatch thread altogether that’d be great. More to come!
Dump Matsumoto is up first.

I’m not going to rank my matches here exactly but I will tier them off as such:
Tier 1:
An exceptional match, worthy of discussion. Maybe the best of a style or one that does something interesting, or noteworthy in terms of structure or importance while not necessarily being in the running for the title of greatest ever But still something special that deserves to be recognized and discussed.
Tier 2:
A match that is absolutely in the discussion to Be included in tier 1 but sits outside. I could welcome a conversation about it being one of the greatest matches but I cannot comfortably call it the greatest match.
Tier 3:
Incontrovertibly one of the greatest matches of all time, I could put this at #1 and be totally comfortable with that decision.
Additionally, I don’t want a match to be realistic but rather I want to believe the fighters think it’s real. And I believe it in all of these matches.
And most importantly I want spectacle of which it’s never been done better.
Finally, I do not judge matches based on what happens bell-to-bell (there are exceptionsto everything of course). The idea that a wrestling match is exclusively what happens between two bells is absurd. A truly great wrestling match is like a 3 act play and not necessarily in the Bret Hart way
-The introduction. -The match. -The post match.
I’m still working my way through these Dump matches. They’ve redefined spectacle and put into perspective what I think is most important in the art form of professional wrestling.
