I'm doing a fun fantasy booking project. What if instead of trying to compete with the WWF expansion in the 80s, JCP/WCW formed an alliance with WWF. In this fantasy booking, the rosters are staying the same. But we get one major WWF & JCP/WCW Supershow per year. I'm aiming for a late Summer supershow. Kind of a back to school one last blow-out. So I'm looking at the rosters from each company for August of each year starting with 1984 and building supercards with the available talent.
I'm giving myself a few challenges: 1. All cards must have 10 matches 2. Use August rosters. Anybody who worked a card for WWF or JCP/WCW in August of that particular year is available. 2. Be somewhat realistic. It can't be a 2022 smart fans dream so there must be an expectation that the matches appeal to casual fans at the time. That said, obviously there are tons of matches fans like us are gonna like. 3. The big one: No repeating matches. So I only have one shot at Hogan vs Flair or Hart Foundation vs Rock & Roll Express.
So lets have some fun.

1984 - This was a little tough because our JCP is pretty light on appealing options at this point if you ask me. But we've still got some great stuff. 1. Tito Santana (IC Champ) vs Tully Blanchard (TV Champ) - We have an excellent match to start the show. 15min draw. 2. Ivan Putski vs Buzz Sawyer - Short brawl with short men. Putski has a shit reputation but he's super charismatic, can throw a good punch and could have good matches with good opponents. 3. Don Kernodle & Ivan Koloff (World Tag Champs) vs Wild Samoans - This is a match on the show. 4. Greg Valentine vs Barry Windham - Another good match. 5. Andre the Giant & Dusty Rhodes & Sgt Slaughter vs Iron Sheik & Kamala & Nikita Koloff - First Half of the Show Main Event 6. Dick Murdoch & Adrian Adonis (World Tag Champs) vs Rufus R Jones & Johnny Weaver - WWF Tag Champs vs JCP Legend team. 7. Jimmy Snuka & Pat Patterson vs Dory Funk Jr & Blackjack Mulligan - More Legends 8. Roddy Piper vs RIcky Steamboat - Our 2nd of 4 main events. Probably the best or 2nd best match on the show when the GME crew rewatches it 9. Ric Flair (World Champ) vs Bob Backlund - NWA Champ vs the Forever WWF Champ 10. Hulk Hogan (World Champ) vs Wahoo McDaniel (US Champ) Non Title Match - Double juice fest brawl. Wahoo was a heel at this time and he would be a great Hogan opponent

1985 - This was a fun year. It's tag heavy because we have a lot of talent. Gonna be difficult to top this card.
1. Midnight Express vs British Bulldogs - Workrate Dream Tag Match to Open the Show 2. Randy Savage vs Buzz Sawyer - Lunatic undercard brawl. 3. Ricky Steamboat & Tito Santana (IC Champ) vs Arn Anderson & Ole Anderson (World Tag Champs) - Another awesome tag match. 4. Tully Blanchard (US Champ) vs Paul Orndorff - Another high energy match. 5. Hulk Hogan (World Champ) & Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo vs Ivan Koloff & Nikita Koloff & Krusher Kruschev - First half of the show main event. Its Team Ronald Reagan vs The Russians 6. Rock & Roll Express vs Hart Foundation - Workrate Tag to bring us back from intermission 7. Magnum TA & Andre the Giant vs Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff - The Andre & Magnum dream team vs the evil foreigners. 8. Terry Funk vs Abdullah the Butcher - Obviously I'm putting this on the show 9. Dusty Rhodes vs Roddy Piper - These two have a BIG match with lots of stooging, shenanigans and charisma. 10. Ric Flair (World Champ) vs JYD - JYD is still a big star and you don't mind a main event like this with an undercard like this.

1986 - The mid show main event & main event are insane.
1. Midnight Express vs KIller Bees - Workrate tag to open the show 2. Paul Orndorff vs Ron Garvin - Hard hitting short brawl 3. Greg Valentine & Brutus Beefcake vs Rock & Roll Express - Another good tag 4. Dick Murdoch vs Jake Roberts - Slower paced but good match. 5. Hulk Hogan & Dusty Rhodes vs King Kong Bundy & Randy Savage - Mid Show Main Event. 3 of the most charismatic dudes of all time & Bundy who rules. 6. Manny Fernandez vs King Tonga - Good match but gives everyone a chance to get settled after intermission & the last match. 7. Tully Blanchard vs Ricky Steamboat - Picking things back up with an awesome match. 8. British BUlldogs vs Arn Anderson & Ole Anderson - Another "Dream" tag match that's probably like the 8th best match on this show. 9. Magnum TA & JYD & Wahoo vs Ivan Koloff & Nikita Koloff & Krusher Kruschev - Another dream super charisma face team vs Evil Russian 10. Ric Flair (World Champ) vs Bruno Sammartino - I mean, when I saw this was an option this was written in stone right away. FLair cheats to win.

1987 - Feeling pressure to top or approach WrestleMania III, we go with our mega dream match. 1. Midnight Express vs Rick Martel & Tito Santana - Our workrate opener 2. Islanders vs Rock & Roll Express - Our other workrate opener 3. Ken Patera vs Lex Luger - Passing of the strong man torch. 4. Randy Savage & Ricky Steamboat vs Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard - Our mid show co-main event. 5. Dusty Rhodes vs Andre the Giant - Our mid show main event. Its short don't worry. 6. Jimmy Garvin & Brutus Beefcake vs Rougeaus - A match for Grimmas 7. Barry Windham & Nikita Koloff vs Demoltion - Sure 8. Honky Tonk Man (IC Champ) vs Ron Garvin - Garvin gets a few stiff shots in and Honky goes running 9. Road Warriors vs Hart Foundation (Tag Champs) - Our co-main event turns out to be a borderline squash & the Harts go running 10. Hulk Hogan vs Ric Flair (Steel Cage - Non Title Match) - There's no running in the cage. Double juice, Flair loses clean to the legdrop

1988 - Feeling the pressure to top last year's show and we did it! 1. Rockers vs Midnight Express - Dream Workrate Match Opener 2. Larry Zbyszko vs Jake Roberts - The opposite of the last match but excellent 3. Fantastics vs Rick Rude & Honky Tonk Man - Sure 4. Ron Garvin vs King Haku - Hit each other hard and stuff 5. Ric Flair (World Champ) vs Randy Savage (World Champ) - Mid Show Main Event these two had great chemistry a few years later this is closer to their athletic prime. 6. Dick Murdoch vs Bad News Brown - GOod hard hitting match 7. Barry Windham (US Champ) vs Ultimate Warrior - Had to do something with Warrior. Great wrestlers could get something out of him though & this is peak Barry. 8. Hart Foundation vs Sheepherders - This would be fun. 9. Road Warriors vs Demolition (World Champs) - The Tag Dream Match of the late 80s 10. Hogan & Hacksaw Duggan & Dusty Rhodes & Sting & Lex Luger vs Andre the Giant & Ted Dibiase & Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson (World Tag Champs) & Big Boss Man (WarGames) - I mean...

1989 - No brainer on the main event. Awesome show top to bottom with a ton of great wrestlers and all of the bad wrestlers in one match. 1. Brainbusters vs Brian Pillman & Eddie Gilbert - Workrate Tag to start the show keeping with tradition. 2. Tito Santana vs Great Muta - Probably awesome 3. Big Boss Man vs Ricky Steamboat - Probably awesome 4. Midnight Express vs Rougeaus - Probalby awesome 5. Road Warriors vs Dusty Rhodes & Ultimate Warrior - Mid Show main event - Very Charismatic 6. Fabulous Freebirds vs Rockers - Probably Awesome 7. Rick Rude (IC Champ) vs Sting - Probably awesome. 8. Lex Luger vs Bret Hart - Probably Awesome 9. Demolition vs Steiners - Probably Awesome 10. Hulk Hogan (World Champ) & Ric Flair (World Champ) vs Randy Savage & Terry Funk - Probably a GME Candidate

1990: Tag heavy show. Hogan playing politics to keep himself in the main event of these supershows would be inevitable. 1. Rock & Roll Express vs Orient Express - Our traditional hot workrate tag opener 2. Brian Pillman vs Rick Rude - These two had good chemistry a couple of years later so no doubt this would be good. 3. Midnight Express vs Demolition - Another long time WWF/JCP/WCW Dream Match 4. Doom vs Rockers - This would be awesome no doubt 5. Steiners vs Hart Foundation - Mid show main event is another dream tag 6. Jake Roberts vs Arn Anderson - Fun match built around two guys trying to DDT each other. 7. Vader & Stan Hansen vs Big Boss Man & Hacksaw Duggan - On a tag heavy show, this hoss slug fest steals the show. 8. Dusty & JYD vs Ted Dibiase & Sid - Bunch of guys who aren’t as over as they used to be or will never be as over as you’d like them to be. 9. Lex Luger vs Mr Perfect - Luger could carry Perfect to something good. 10. Hulk Hogan & Ultimate Warrior (World Champ) & Sting (World Champ) vs Ric Flair & Randy Savage & Earthquake - Was supposed to just be Warrior & Sting teaming vs Flair & Savage but Hogan didn’t want to be upstaged so he got himself in the match.

1991: Gotta say I'm not thrilled about this one compared to some of our other shows. Some good matches though. Freebirds vs Whackers would be amazing. 1. Enforcers vs Ricky Steamboat & British Bulldog - Hot Opener. Steamboat in peril. Enforcers stooging for Davey's power spots. 2. Natural Disasters vs El Gigante & One Man Gang - You can just hear Vince "The Biggest Match of all time on the biggest show of all time!" 3. Barry Windham vs Sgt Slaughter (Taped Fist) - 5 Minutes of these two brutes walloping the shit out of each other. 4. Rock & Roll Express vs Nasty Boys (WWF Tag Team Championship) - Only the WWF Tag title stands in the way of immortality for the tag team of the 80ss 5. LOD vs Steiners - 1st half of the show main event bomb fest 6. Ted Dibiase w/ Virgil vs Ron Simmons - Simmons dominates Ted after something with Virgil whatever bc that storyline is about to end & we get Simmons a win over a good opponent 7. Bret Hart vs Brian Pillman - Our Show stealer 8. Dustin Rhodes vs Big Boss Man - Segunda Caida's favorite match when they rewatch the show 25 years later 9. Freebirds vs Bushwhackers - The most obvious match on the entire show 10. Hulk Hogan & Ultimate Warrior vs Sting & Lex Luger (Cage Match) - Our Main Event

1992 - Back on track after a down year. I'd be excited for any of these matches in 1992 and most of them still now. Bret vs Rude and Vader vs Savage in 1992 would be amazing matches. 1. Owen Hart & Koko B Ware vs Steve Austin & Arn Anderson - Workrate Tag opener 2. Steiners vs Nasty Boys - These two had awesome matches before, lets run it back. 3. Big Boss Man vs Larry Zbyszko - I can just picture Boss Man getting irate at Larry's stalling tactics. These two have a good one in them. 4. Dustin RHodes & Brian Pillman vs Natural Disasters - Looks fun. These guys know how to work a good tag. 5. RIc Flair vs Ricky Steamboat - Our first half of the show main event, promoted to be their final ever matchup. 6. Ultimate Warrior vs Cactus Jack - Warrior could have a good match with a workhorse. Cactus will kill himself to get a good match in this position 7. Bret Hart (IC Champ) vs Rick Rude (US Champ) - Rude's peak year & the beginning of Bret's peak. This would be a fantastic match. 8. LOD vs Steve Williams & Terry Gordy - Our big hoss tag bomb fest 9. Sting vs Undertaker - I'm not waiting 30 years. I'm running it immediately. 10. Vader (World CHamp) vs Randy Savage (World Champ) - This would be an awesome main event in 1992.

1993 - Vader vs Bret in 1993 really mains this show is awesome regardless of the other matches. Still some fun stuff in here. 1. Hollywood Blondes vs Owen Hart & Marty Jannetty - Our hot workrate tag opener. 2. Bam Bam Bigelow & Shawn Michaels vs Nasty Boys - Heel Shawn taking the pit-stop and bumping around for the Nasties could be fun. 3. Randy Savage vs Steven Regal - I dunno if this ever happened so lets have it happen 4. 123 Kid vs 2 Cold Scorpio - This has show stealer potential 5. Vader (World Champ) vs Bret Hart - First half of the show main event. Probably a MOTDC 6. Steiner Brothers vs Arn Anderson & Paul Roma - Tag scene is down a peg if feels. 7. Doink the Clown vs Ricky Steamboat - Heel Doink vs Steamboat 8. Dustin Rhodes vs Jerry Lawler - The Segunda Caida Dream Match 9. Undertaker vs Sid - One for Eric 10. Hulk Hogan & Sting & Lex Luger vs Yokozuna & Ric FLair & Rick Rude - A real dream babyface team vs the dastardly heels.

1994 - Time to get Bret the big win over Hogan. Undertaker vs Flair in 1994 is probably interesting. 1. Headshrinkers vs Nasty Boys - Hoss tag slobberknocker to start. 2. Smoking Gunns vs Terry Funk & Bunkhouse Buck - Funk & Buck teach these punks how to be cowboys 3. Bob Backlund vs Ricky Steamboat - Backlund snaps and puts Steamboat out with the crossface chickenwing. 4. Steven Regal vs Razor Ramon - Sure. 5. Undertaker vs Ric Flair - 1st half of the show main event. 6. Jerry Lawler vs Larry Zbyszko - One for me 7. Bam Bam Bigelow vs Guardian Angel - Hoss slug fest 8. Owen Hart & Yokozuna vs Sting & Dustin Rhodes - Dustin in peril maybe. 9. Vader & Steve Austin vs Diesel & Shawn Michaels - THis would rule 10. Bret Hart vs Hulk Hogan - Best time to pull the trigger on this one.

1995 - Tough year resting almost entirely on Bret & Sting's shoulders. Its less of a sure thing than Bret vs Vader 1. Brian Pillman vs Hakushi - Workrate opener 2. Big Bubba vs Lex Luger - Hoss fight 3. Meng vs Bam Bam Bigelow - Hoss fight 4. Smoking Gunns vs Blue Bloods - Regal & Eaton teach these young punks some manners 5. Bret Hart vs Sting - Our real main event of the show. Bret leads Sting to a classic 6. Razor Ramon & 123 Kid vs Harlem Heat - Tag team options aren't great. Harlem Heat would get a big spot I think. Maybe Waltman can salvage this 7. Randy Savage vs Undertaker - Big match! 8. Owen Hart & Yokozuna vs Nasty Boys - Tag match slobberknocker 9. Shawn Michaels vs Arn Anderson - The match smart fans were salivating over that ended up kinda disappointing but still very good. 10. Hulk Hogan & Diesel vs King Mable & Ric Flair - Blame Hogan at his worst for this bullshit

1996 - Card picks up big time with the business getting hotter. Austin vs Eddie Guerrero in August 1996 would've had a classic. We never got a Savage vs Foley match and I think they'd probably have a really awesome brawl. 1. Owen Hart vs Rey Mysterio Jr - Hot workrate opener 2. Ahmed Johnson vs Scott Norton - Bill Watts Memorial Hoss Fight 3. Steve Austin vs Eddie Guerrero - Our show stealer 4. Sting vs Goldust - Strong match that plays into Sting starting to get downplayed & feeling disrespected leading to Crow Sting. 5. Vader vs The Giant - Bill Watts Memorial Hoss Fight 2 6. Lex Luger & Davey Boy Smith vs HHH & Steven Regal - Regal & Luger work most of the match and its fun. 7. Sid & Yokozuna vs Outsiders - Slim pickings on the WWF side so we're taking the biggest guys we can find to match up to the Outsiders 8. Randy Savage vs Mankind (No DQ) - This would rule 9. Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair - Dave Meltzer Dream Match 10. Hulk Hogan vs Undertaker - NWO Hogan vs Babyface Monster Taker would probably be really fun actually

1997 - Those main events would probably overdeliver. Austin vs Savage is probably our best match. Savage and DDP had great brawls around then so peak Austin in there instead of DDP is probably great. 1. Taka Michinoku vs Rey Misterio Jr - Hot workrate opener. Show stealer potential 2. HHH vs Chris Benoit - Gotta shove these two somewhere. 3. Goldust vs DDP - Quick high energy match 4. Owen Hart vs Eddie Guerrero - Another hot workrate match. Another show stealer possibility 5. Mankind vs Lex Luger - Luger is about to win the WCW title so lets give him a match against someone who will make him look strong 6. Vader & Ken Shamrock vs Outsiders - More trouble matching up with the Outsiders. So we're going for toughness 7. Steve Austin vs Randy Savage (No DQ) - This is pre-neck injury so its fucking dope 8. Undertaker vs The Giant - Battle of the big men 9. Bret Hart vs Ric Flair - Bret drags Ric to his last true classic 10. Hulk Hogan vs Shawn Michaels - These two jerks.
