I'll stand by the second Page/Danielson match pretty firmly. The first was actually last year, but if I put it in this year's list it would probably wind up being something like top 8-15. Page/Danielson II built wonderfully on that first match as well as on the doubt they were able to create about Page after the big chase (did he peak during the chase? can he defend?) which really helped keep that momentum he had as a chasing champion into his actual reign. I'll write something a bit more nuanced down the road when I start to revisit and finalize my list, but in short, it was just top shelf physical storytelling that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was brutal, pacy, and did a great deal to establish Page as the ace (regardless of what came later).
I like MJF v Wardlow, but I don't think I have watched it since it happened. I was soured a bit on the whole thing by the idea that MJF might be done. I don't know if it was all work or partial or none or what, but that should have felt like Wardlow's moment and it felt very overshadowed to me. As far as the way it went down in ring... bravo, so maybe one day I'll go back to it and appreciate it more fully.

I'll be revisiting it soon to see how well it holds up, but right now Page/Danielson is #1 with a bullet and my favorite match of at least the past five years. Lynch/Belair at Mania is my #2. Punk/Dustin, Anarchy in the Arena, and Sheamus/Gunther round out my top five with the Brock/Roman LMS match just outside that range.

Think my top two would be FTR - Briscoes 1 & 3. Probably in that order, for now...

FTR v Briscoes III just got into competition with Page/Dragon and Anarchy in the Arena for my top spot. Absolutely tremendous match, very much in my wheelhouse. I really don't know how to discern 1, 2, and 3 with those matches. I'll probably watch them all back to back at the end of the month and just go with my feeling at the moment.

I need to go back and rewatch Punk/Mox 2. I'm not sure I've ever given it a proper watch outside of the context of everything that came after and I know a lot of folks are really high on it.
My watch/rewatch list for the end of the year is getting longer by the day. I've gone through my top 11 and there has been some shifting and moving already, so I've made a dent, but I probably have at least 10 outside my current top 25 I want to check out or rewatch.

Punk/Mox suffers from a build that feels rushed. The summer was just a weird time and everything that happens afterward kinda leaves a bad taste.
But the thing is executed perfectly from Bell-to-bell. Punk’s great character work frames this match but Mox working heel is the driving force. Their first match perfectly sets up an early sneak finish and after that Punk is working from behind, trying to get back into the thing and kinda kicks his way into the finish. I think the fact that Punk legitimately injured his triceps early in the match, drives home the story better than they could without it. And the post match is a fun moment. It leaves the door open for a third Punk/MJF match but there’s something weirdly fitting/bittersweet about Punk holding the title while Chicago chants MJF’s name.

It's probably Mox/Punk for me. Great, great use of the squash angle to build a proper match this time, playing with the idea of it maybe ending sooner than expected again, but this time with Punk returning the favour. Awesome heelish Moxley performance, the attacks to the ankle were perfectly timed throughout the whole match, and Punk sold it really well. I LOVED the fact that Mox doesn't receive a single pinfall attempt after the first GTS earlier in the match, helped protecting the finisher a lot. This totally feels like Punk taking down a rabid titan and it's a shame it quickly got overshadowed by all the backstage bullshit. Poor Mox, every time he has a legit awesome match something weird happens right after to eclipse it.

Did my rewatch of Punk/Mox this morning and am glad folks put it back on my radar. It is right up there. I penned it in behind my big 3 and behind Kingston/Jericho for now. It feels like it is right there with Kingston/Jericho and Villano/Penta in that second tier for me, but - and I'm going to be saying this a lot about a lot of matches over the next few weeks - this might be my #1 or #2 most years over the past 30 or so at least.
