I've always thought them doing this great staredown at the start and then following it up with these awkward looking Angle punches is a strong case for banning worked punches, along with any other time Angle throws punches in this. That's the key. It's not that worked punches are bad. Worked punches are great. Kurt just happens to be an absolutely terrible puncher. I did think they were notably awful in this match but failed to note it.

Who is getting worked up? I'm pointing out a 5 minute section of a wrestling match I think is dumb. You wrote "fuck Kurt Angle" because he did a couple of spots in a wrestling match you didn't care for. If that's you not worked up, what would you do if he did something that really pissed you off? Try to burn his house down? And his punches were fine. Not great, but not nearly bad enough to take me out of the match. If you can accept Hogan and Rock's punches, you should be able to accept Angle's.

I voted this #23 this year.
Always had this as a WWE classic. Austin was just so good in his '01 heel run and this was the pick of it. He was able to project his paranoid/insecure bully character so clearly through his work in the ring. He was vicious on offense here, brutalising Angle on the outside. Angle has never been more compelling to me than when dragging Austin ankle-first off the barricade and into the ring, all while bleeding profusely and yelling like a madman.
Crazy that Austin was able to give each of Rock, Benoit and Angle their career matches in this short run. Wish we could've gotten this Stone Cold for longer.
