funaki vs nanako uwf 7/24/89- All time great match and easily the best sprint ever. The sheer heat and intensty and brutality with which they went at each other is legendary it starts with usual young lion refusing handshake. But then it turns into joe vs butcher ina uwf ring. They struggle and dorough strikes to break hold. They went at each other with really great urgency too with both guys trying to finish each other as fast as possible.the holds are alot better than i remember some neat takedowns and great grinding.and man this is really fucking stiff and they just nuke each other with reckless shots. The stopping makes this reach another level as after funaki concussed nanako he still dont give up but is swollowed and has blood coming from mouth and his skin is ripped. He then just tries to destroys funaki. But on this night he cant beat funaki no matter what he does. Just some of the stiffest shots in history the whole match great urgency great holds drama all time great crowd a street brawl and uwf doing frye vs takayama before frye vs takayama but better *****

Jumbo tsuruta vs genichiro tenryu 6/5/89 - This is easily the best culamanation to a match ever. Both guys hate each other and that shows in the shots. Tenryu shows hes not fucking and does a german early in the match. Then jumbo responds to it by an epic beatdown. The genius of this match is the urgency and transtions as both guys take any chance they get even the tiniset of second to counter a move and get the match shift in their favour. A lot of great striking and violence and no downtime at all. As tenryu takes big risks in desperation ex that dive. Epic beatdown by jumbo as he crushes teryus thorat and answers to every chop by a heavier shot. Really unique great counters by both some great spots. Like jumbo taking a risk and itescalates with him going for heavier shots. That top rope knee and tenryus ko sell are epic great camerawork as we see some great experssions. Tenryu somehow manages to keep himself and survive always moving forward and fighting back and stuns jumbo then pins him. Great violence with the throat chops the stomps etc every strike is great. Supreme narrative structure no down time at all *****.

Misawa vs kawada 7/24/95. Fuck i really underrated this its top 25 easily in my list. I love how boxing type this is and its so different from any other misawa kawada match. Almost perfect structure. Kawada does a violent ambush early and really hurts misawas shoulder orbital etc. Great kicks to the face and awesome unique ambush as kawada forces misawas head in the match. Really smart startegy by kawada as he goes back to the orbital every time misawa builds a comeback. But the elbow is misawas great equalizer and he just overwhelms kawada with it slowly and at one point kawada goes down. Then misawa tries to finish it with great deadly germans. Kawada rolls out and goes at the injury again he then does the deadly backdrops.he throws everything at misawa. Then gets fusturated slams and kicks him in back. Then kawada fooleshly goes into strike exchange again he uses elbows and misawas takes revenge with kick kawada staraight in face and making a comeback. Kawada gets one or two shots again but misawas comeback the sheer speed and he gets overwhelmed. This match had the most brutal tiger suplex ever. The great detail work in the narrative and great experssions and character work. Ie kawada and misawa trading elbows, kawada losing cool and great standing and staring. The kicking by misawaetc. Great camera work as we get some epic selling and experssions . The submissions in this are great as they really suffocate and grind and kawada uses a illegal hold. Awesome execution and again boxing type epic strike exchanges. The end is a violent ko of kawada by anelbow. ****7/8.

Tamura vs kohsaka 6/27/98 maybe the best pure grappling based match ever. The grappling here has everything it has intense it is smooth crisp it looks violent it is real grappling type in terms of how its done and the struggle emphesis how fast intense brutal it is alot slick and tons of great details and even character work. The mind games as well as them trying to do beat each other as fast as possible not letting the other fool by a postion and great strertegic long term counters with regerds to urgency and trying to submit. Doesnt emphesis on point system like uwfi and has great counters every hold is legit realistic violent as fuck strikes great execution perfect match *****

Ishikawa vs ikeda 4/24/05 - all time stiff match and i dont think any match is truely stiffer its on another level. But saying its all violence is just wrong there is so much details to it i cant understand how you can watch it and not understand the grappler vs striker dynamic the dikish touches by ikeda etc and the clear great logical progression narrative and character work etc. Feels like a street brawl with the way its filmed to show the brutality and the way crowd is silent. Also those potato shots and blood from mouth and that all time violent ko etc. Every shot rips the skin its bone breaking and the color just turns of their skin the swelling etc. Man this is epic match that perfects in all facets of wrestling i love how its stretgic but breaks down. And the progression in their series the details etc no idea how can someone put something like sasha charlotte ahead of it. Also the ace ishikawa experssions and the visuals pushes it to *****.

Roddy piper vs greg valentine 11/24/83 - man i have talked alot about this but its one of the ultimate gruesome wrestling bloodbaths. Epic visuls great brawling good dynamic. Also great focus on the ear and great selling the punch and strikes combo and the unique chain sequnches the great pulling etc. Awesome brawl structure as it goes from stertegic to hate filled and piper bleds from the ear and he has great chrisma. Really visceral and what puts it over the top to me is that the finish is piper pulling a combo outta nowhere and surviving. Then valentine chokes piper taking revenge from 7/9/83 this feud is not over and hope they release the matches from house shows after this. Great execution as well as strikes the focus startegy selling desperation even urgency and the struggle and even the great ear and head work and the colnr of skin going read and the amazing blood visuals are everything great about it ****3/4 or 7/8.

Tamura vs yammamoto 6/24/99 i am not sure what to say about this the urgency and great gritty matwork to the narrative and characterwork and the brutality and grappling the focus details characterstics all the great facets of wrestling and present in it. Doesnt feel anticlimatic and the finish is perfect. This is just a great structure of all time great matwork followed by non stop violence. Awesome brutal strikes etc and crisp great execution.this match has been broken down and talked about alot greater than i have done. The stand up to the end is maybe the most epic riviting dramatic wrestling i have seen ever. Just the pefect shoot style match great exhusation type selling as both get swolled and exhusted with both getting wet. Great selling of pain structure. My fav moments include the slap the disrespectful shots my yammamoto tamura bas ruttening him. To the end huge jumping head kick. The great character moment of tamura not grabbing the rope. The end with trying to go to mat but time expering. The desperation and urgency and violence in last few mins. The fusvration of the time expering the bitter sweet handshake and the opening great well executed intense fought over matwork which had the great sheer spef both trying to just catch and sumbit each other and the one upmanship and then the stand up and crowd appluse etc. Great crowd and amazing execution and violent as fuck crowds also the close up and visuals and the stretegys i got fully invasted in *****.

Lawler vs mantell 3/29/82 - this was something else. Nothing cartoony and the gold standard from all the punches and exchanges in wrestling are judged by and similar matches aim to be. Has this fight feel to it and this is just a boxing match in a wrestling ring. Epic exchanges as mantell injures lawlers face and every time lawler tries to comeback he aims punches right at it. Lawler just kills mantell who comes back every time and fucking nukes him in return. This is the lawler i wanna see. Also exhusation SELLING. lances call and commentary is awesome he puts over the strength the momentum etc. which is done awesomely. just a boxing type match with every punch being deadly great narrative urgency violence and some of the best punches and exhusation selling ever as this is the gold standard. also that strap down and huge brutal lawler signature huge punch was the best of that type ever. mantell doesnt back down andstil fights back both are swelling and wobbeled on their feet as they are exhusated greatfinal blow and mantell gets koed and loses due to sheer exhusation. all time great selling *****.

stan hansen vs toshiaki kawada 2/28/93 all time great slugfest. has a really unique structure and alot of details. starts off with hansen trying to get an advantage and knowing he has to take him seriously. kawada in pure instict fires back and take risks. kawada goes down due to hansen having bigger shots and strength advantage and kawada sells and goes down in a great way. so realistic and so violent match is filled of ko level shots and bone breaking stuff. both guys try to work at each others leg but both fail. kawadas leg is hurt more considerbly.at one point hansen just kicks kawada in jaw and destroys him its so brutal kawada screams in pain. hansen starts to get desperate and throws bombs at kawada at one point he realizes its hard but its denial. kawada realizes it isnt 90 anymore and he cant let hansen bully him. he then beats the soul out of stan but gets cocky and slaps him really brutally. hansen answers with a elbow to skull and kawada goes down. then its just becames a war as both man gets urgent and try to just beat each other to death as all their startegies failed. kawada just kills hansen. how answers by just doing tackes and throwing his body at him jim londos style. at one just instance hansen just throws himself at kawada with a lariat and dives out of the ring dueto the sheer force. its pretty uncoperative. hansen hurts his eyes. that gives kawada a chance as hes out knocked dead in ring. kawada almost broke hansen ear on that gamengiri and the stretch plum was great with greating foaming type selling by hansen. also at the end kawadas mind stops working and we get great desperate valiant kawada characterstics. he foolishely trade lariats with hansen and wakes up a monster. also then hansen does more great tackles straight out of 30s. and then concessued kawada with lariat to the back of neck its legit dangerous. great narrative laughing at anyone calling it just without flow or just random trading. awesome boxing type realistic selling better than many cartoony crap. violent dank as fuck ko level shots great execution great urgency at the end very good crowd awesome details and transtions. cant say how just crystal clear narrative goes over peoples head ****7/8.

Samoa joe vs necro butcher 6/11/05 - just a gnarly brutal disgusting fight. Really a pure wrestling street brawl. Starts with both going right at each other exaching blows and joe hits a tope to necro. Joe really lays in the kicks. And answers headbutts by headbuttimg necro until hes busted.then it gets almost uncoperrative as they threw chairs right at each others face almost in a reckless manner. This has no trying to step up spots and slow meandring around they go right. Necro takes alot of gmarly bumps in this and busts open and his blood is pouring dropping drop by drop. His flesh is ripped amd there is a huge big wound on his head. His face looked like the flesh got eaten by an animal. They dont slow do and necro takes a guaardrail powerbomb that looked like he doesnt have control over body he took it on neck.really stiff uncomfartable out of control reckless strikes and necro looks like a zombie that is pissed and will kill everybody. He threw his body recklessy. Joe dont back down tho. Also he knees necro straight in head and it looks like a concussion shot. Post match necro just gets mental as everyone ran away due to fear. Just the blood he bleed was so gnarly and disgusting to watch it looks true flesh ripped on concerate powerslam. Just a pure urgency filled gnarly fast street fight. Great yet violent and deadly execution murderus bumps great strikes reckless shots etc ****3/4.

njpw multiman 4/19/84 - Have talked about this in length before. The way they had the individual pairings narrative and the overall narrative mesh well and the details callbacks payoffs and picking up from where a performer left and the dynamic with attention to their character and roles etc. Is an testment to them and a real credit. These type of matches dont mesh well here it did. For my word this is maybe the greatest crowd of all time in a wrestling match. The overall loudest loudness and the emotion and sustaining over 90 mins is a record. The crowd wasnt too loud and didnt felt like a separate entity from the work.and work and crowd mesh well which is the reason for this match succeding. Unlike an 80s ajw crowd. An 80s ajw crowd is annoying due to that as the voice and the heat dont mesh with the work it feels like a separate entity and the actual work isnt that great. unlike here as the crowd and the work and the chrisma of the performers make the heat mesh well and the actual work is great . dropped dowm a notch for me as i didnt like what some of the performers did in their actual work and some pairings werent good to me. Still a top level match and one of the best multiman and new japan matches of all time *****.

Hansen vs colon bullrope - wasnt a huge fan of this in past but fell in love with it recently. Really unique structure to start it off they just beat the soul out of each other really out of control recklessely and brutally violent strikes and great execution of the strikes. Its puerto rico so always blow the roof heat and here they want to have colon take hansens head off. Hansen sells great for colon both in the moment and overall and isnt the unstoppabld monster like in ajpw where he almost blows off selling. Here he is also always fighting back but showing pain and colon is teachincally the good guy. But hes a guy thats always ready to mual oppnents amd fight back so hansen tastes his own medicine. What hooked me in was the narrative and how the escalated in a way i think. Really violent too. As they both get tired and beat up and cant just knock each other they get desperate and try to win. Colon is really dirty in this great punches and bites. Hansen realizing he was beatean at his own game and he chew more than he can and getting fursturated was surreal and great karma. Huge drama in the end even tho im not a drama guy. Good selling of exhusation but will say it gets repeative with the weapon use and bullrope spots and touching the turnbuckle deal. Colon bascially pulls this off and surives as hansen is ready to fight back ****5/8.

Tsuruta and tenryu vs choshu yatsu 1/28/86 - This dropped down a few notches for me due to it being one of those matches were i am not feeling moves and force myself to try and feel it. Choshu is a overrated worker in my eyes and his stomps can be fine too good but here they downgraded.this was a spirnt and choshu formula but the narrative of it with it being hate fueled battle due to both teams bascially being fed up of a long battle and snapping. Has the choshu rib injury angle surrounding it and they work on it good selling choshu. Jumbo gets busted tenryu pulls the upset etc. Not stop violence and even a basic strike being brutal helped it. Had a lot urgency good rope running at points recklessness to it. Its all about drama it seems as the crowd is molten and into this as its hugely dramatic etc. the violence like tenryus chairshot chops to throat and great jumbo stomps made this. This was bascially fip formula mixed with spirnt. Had a nice sense of escalation fun character work ****3/4.
