Their last big singles match (they had 1 more at CC 92), and it isn't far behind their more famous ones from 1990. I actually prefer this to 9/30/90 as it has better action, though it doesn't top 6/8/90. More of a back-and-forth heavyweight title match than their their 1990 stuff. Misawa is no longer the hot young star out to prove himself and is now pretty firmly established as a heavyweight. This is reflected in his performance as he's more assertive and confident offensively than he was in the September match. Jumbo's performance (thankfully) isn't too far off from the September match, though, as he again brings a mean streak with him and doesn't fuck around with shutting Misawa down. Brutal finish with Jumbo hitting two backdrops on Misawa to get the win.

Terrific match that belongs in the conversation with the 1990 matches. Jumbo in this era is about as good as anyone ever was. It is so sad that he had less than 2 years left as a competitive performer.

3rd. While the 1990 matches between these two demonstrated the freshness of the rivalry, here the depth of the rivalry was on display. It started with their strirkes having extra meaning at the beginning. The near falls in the finishing stretch felt like Misawa was now on Jumbo’s level and could feasibly take it at any time even though Jumbo squeezed out a win. I actually have it second in the trilogy behind 6/8/90 which I know is provocative.
