Yumiko Hotta & Hisako Uno vs Yumi Ogura & Kazue Nagahori (2/3 Falls 4/27/87 - AJW)
This is "that" match. The one that really set Hisako Uno on the path of becoming Akira Hokuto, The Dangerous Queen, and arguably the greatest women's wrestler in history. Hotta & Uno were the standouts of the 1985 rookie class and obviously had loads of potential. Ogura & Nagahori were a really good midcard tag team. They were small in size but didn't work the insane pace of the Crush Gals or Jumping Bomb Angels so they were a good team for the younger team to match up with. The crowd was really hot for this match. Everyone knows 80s AJW heat is insane, but just like every promotion, its not always nuts for undercard matches. Stuff with Chigusa or Dump or Devil will have great heat. But the rookie and midcard match crowds can be iffy based on the quality of the match. They're hot from the rip here. Ogura & Nagahori work like the Anderson Brothers here and isolate the future Hokuto working over her leg. Hotta is already a steamroller with her kicks and Uno already excels at bodypart selling. So the basic psych is the vets trying to isolate Uno and the momentum swings when Hotta comes in.
Its a really good first fall but then towards the end of it Uno is given a tombstone piledriver from the 2nd rope and legit breaks her neck. She (obviously) eats the pin, but continues working the 2nd and 3rd falls. With a broken neck. She still does all of her spots, moves off the ropes and bumps but inbetween everything she is clutching at her neck. It is a truly insane performance and the one that gave Hokuto her reputation as one of the toughest people in wrestling and willing to fight through injuries. Crazy stuff.
The 4/27/87 AJW show was fantastic with 4 really good and different matches.
