Shinjiro Ohtani vs. Masao Orihara (WAR 1/16/1994)
Certified insane spectacle between two young dudes ready to die, only in the 90s. Starts like classic WAR vs. NJ material, with both guys quickly making their bad intentions apparent and trying to step on eachothers face. Ohtani is such a fucker here, throwing heavy ringing kicks and stomps and Orihara fires back with some disgusting headbutts. Even Oriharas low blow felt stiff. Then things get a little crazier than usual as both guys start dishing out some of the most reckless piledrivers I've seen. It may sound lame and stupid but both guys did a convincing job selling the head trauma, coming across as fighting on instinct in the middle of a crazy barfight. Ohtani catching Orihara with a kick to the face and doing this "where the fuck am I" selling before hitting the most god awful piledriver in history was amazing. The legwork may have been filler, but lead to some gritty groundfighting with both guys clawing their way out of the holds, and Ohtani is so vicious that you buy his basic leglock as a plausible finish. At this point you start wondering how can they possibly keep this up, but they keep the stiff shots coming with Ohtani spin kicking Orihara in the face repeatedly and Orihara firing back by braining Ohtani with out of nowhere kicks and Kurisu level chairshots. One of those spin kicks seemed to have broken Oriharas orbital bone, as he kept checking his face, but then he goes and hits a fucking diving headbutt to confirm that he is indeed crazy. It builds to a way bigger and better executed finishing stretch than you'd ever expect, with a ton of back and forth fighting that comes across as an intense struggle and genuinely well worked nearfalls with some incredibly tense, well timed moments. It say a lot that in a match with this much violence simple spots such as Orihara struggling for a suplex or both guys trying to stay on their feet came across as epic. Also features one of the greatest freak athletic spots I've ever seen that I'm not going to spoil. Time limit comes into play and of course this is in Korakuen Hall so the crowd eats these two guys killing eachother up. Absolutely great undiscovered gem in both guys resume, man fuck all junior wrestling ever, this is how it should be.
