Jerry Lawler vs. Randy Savage (Cage Match – CWA - 12/12/83) How many feuds start with a cage match? Savage coming off the top of this particular cage was crazy. Awesome match that feels bigger and more important than the typical big main event match because of all the shit surrounding it.

It’s amazing that this bombed at the time. Savage came in with big buzz, interpromotional warfare at the ready, and the big match in the cage halved most of its audience. Sometimes the audience doesn’t know what it wants. The crowd is nonetheless hot for this. And I get it as this was non-stop mayhem. These two just go back and forth beating on each other. Savage goes flying into the cage several times, and these the cage walls aren’t exactly to the ring but they aren’t far away either to be HIAC cages, so the fall is hard and awkward. Neither give too much of an inch as this is early in the Savage run. Lawler pulls down the straps and seems to be itching towards the win before Jos Le Duc climbs the cage and attacks Lawler for the DQ. A beatdown ensues between the three but Dutch Mental, Jim Jamieson and one other guy makes the save. Lawler is left laying in the ring. Cool match, although lacks that big memorable moment to be great. ***3/4
