Bryan Danielson vs James Gibson (ROH World Championship - ROH - 9/17/2005)
I know I am going to come away from this seen somewhat as a Dragon mark and i am, but i genuinely think his title run an all timer on a match by match basis and this is where it starts. This match doesn't get a ton of love, but it is excellent. I watched this when I was sort of diving into 70s NWA stuff and I actually feel like that helped me see what was great about it. Its a well executed, really compelling story of two high level wrestlers going back and forth. It doesn't have anything that really makes it jump off the page for some I think. It isn't a time limit draw or a blood bath. It is a high end title match that I think holds up really really well.

The last 10 minutes of this are very very good and i absolutley love the closing stretch where Danielson never loses his grip on Gibson during which time he: applies cattle mutilation, hits a tiger suplex, gets rolled up and finally applies the chickenwing for the win. It is kinda slow to start but more than makes up for that, with smooth execution of almost every single move. I kinda like the weird dynamic where they're kinda both heels but not really, it's like a face-face match where both guys played subtle heel if that makes any sense at all.
I second this nomination. ****
