Necro Butcher vs Low Ki (IWA-MS - 4/1/2006)
Last time I watched them all, I liked this more than the Necro/Joe match and about as much as Necro/Super Dragon. This is fairly similar to those matches with Necro taking an asskicking from an indy superstar. I've always been a big Ki fan and this is him at his violent best. Exactly what you expect. Impossibly stiff striking and crazy brawling all over the place. Super compelling shit. I love Necro in matches like this.

Second
This falls to third to me, but it is right there with Joe/Necro for me. This one is so much fun because both of these bring such an element of danger to the match. Necro is able to pull Ki out of comfort zone in terms of form, but it allows Ki to go all in with his strikes. This is something to behold, for sure.

I had actually never seen this one before so I decided to watch it.
Wow, what a brutal match this is. Low Ki gives Necro Butcher a beating and I don't think a chair went undamaged in the building. I love how they tease the table for the entire match and left you wondering how they were going to finally break it. Even with all that guessing they still went for a move I didn't expect. Really good match and it reminds me of how good IWA:MS could be.
It's also really weird seeing Bryce Remsberg not in Chikara.

I was talking to Necro about this match once, and he told me that after the flip kick that Ki hits on the outside, Necro really had no idea where he was. In his words: "I didn't know where I was, but I knew I was in a fight, and I was pretty sure I was losing"

You know what you're getting with this. If you like these guys then it's pretty much everything you want - an indie dream match that delivers all ends up. It didn't blow me away quite the same as it did when I first watched it, but there are a few moments that still have me shaking my head in disbelief these many years later. Ki was as violent as he's ever been and threw some of the most hellish strikes of his life - the backfist on the floor, the koppu kick, the running dropkick while Necro was slouched in a chair, the short Kawada kicks, one of the nastiest Wanderlei punts ever. Necro spent most of the match absorbing this punishment and trying to collect his teeth, but every now and then he'd fire back from nowhere with something ridiculous. The best example was when Ki came off the ropes with a springboard and Necro gave him this ugly upward-angle lariat right across the face. Ki's double stomps were monstrous, the first landing across the back as Necro was half hanging out the ring. The one at the finish, though...jeez Louise. Necro tries to hit what I'd guess was a butterfly suplex off the top through a table, but Ki fights back and Necro ends up with his legs caught in the ropes, his body across the table, and that table splintering into a thousand pieces as Ki stomps Necro's head and shoulders through it is an outrageous visual. There's another Necro/Ki match from 2006 that I know I haven't seen before so perhaps it's something I'd be interested in?

This is one of those indie matches I felt like I should watch but always threw on the backburner. Not sure about it being better than Necro/Joe, but I liked it a lot. Between this and the 2007 Zandig match (why doesn't that get discussed more? Best Zandig I've seen by far), I feel silly ever thinking prime Necro was overrated based on the disappointing 2009 ROH run and me not being as high on the 2006 Super Dragon match as others. He really does a great job in these dream matches of adapting to his opponents' strengths and giving them a chance to shine. Here, they kind of work a story where he's up against a world-class striker and is way out of his league. Guy takes a hellacious beating and even got me rooting for him by the end. I was impressed how after getting badly destroyed at pretty much every turn in the match's first half, they actually work a credible Necro comeback and make you want to see him run through his signature offense. Pretty cool table bump at the end as well, though I don't get why the match didn't just end there instead of how he kicked out and got subbed right afterwards.
