Billy Ken Kid vs Tigers Mask 02/12/2007
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Osaka Pro CFOS watched a lot of their matches since the very beginning in 1999 and this match was the best one the company ever put out (according to him) so I had to watch it. It didn’t disappoint it was as good as advertised a proper hidden gem that more people should at least try because this is probably the best way to introduce people to the promotion. Some people don’t like comedy and think that Osaka Pro is a company that’s seen as a joke by many members of the wrestling community when it’s way more than that, the OPW title scene is taken very seriously, in fact, this match is one of the most intense ones of the whole year yet it has gone under the radar for way too long, you’d expect a match like this to be recognized earlier considering it’s the kind of epic most indie companies try but very few manage to pull off the way these two did. Tigers Mask is the underdog challenging the ace for his title, he has been in that position many times before but he lost everyone of them and he’s hoping today the result will be different however his opponent (Billy Ken Kid) won’t make this easy for him, Billy Ken Kid was a cocky heel at the time so the crowd isn’t exactly rooting for the champion. His Dragon Kid inspired offense is really entertaining but the reason why this match is so good is Tigers Mask performance but it wouldn’t have worked that well if his rival wasn’t as arrogant as he was. During those 28 minutes the match lasted both of them put everything on the line, it’s as dramatic as it can get which makes the finish that much sweeter, Tigers Mask hit a Tiger Suplex for the three count and the crowd sat in silent disbelief.
