The very best Portland match I've seen, if not the most epic - some of the Portland tags, or angles involving Roddy Piper, would rank higher than this. But for in-ring work, this is the real deal.
Perfectly executed structure of a 2/3 falls match with the masked up (Jacques Plante style goalie mask) Buddy Rose garnering tremendous heat against young babyface Rick Martel.
This match has big bombs, great psychology, narrative structure, comebacks ... it has everything, really. The logical progressions and long-term selling - even after the breaks and between the falls - really solidifies this match as a five star classic to me.

Second. Even if I prefer their April match, this one is amazing too. This two had a helluva chemistry together. Portland is my favourite territory.

Third
Excellent match. These guys tore it up multiple times in 1980. Martel just an amazing babyface here

Are we sure on the date here? Is this the 5/10/80 match? I can't seem to find a 5/17.

Wouldn't argue with people calling it the best Portland or Rose match. It's a classic.
