Rewatched this recently and thought it was a superb match. It reminded me of the Okada vs. Omega III actually in that I like the first two matches but the third match combines the best elements into a shorter time frame. Really good underdog performance by Punk and I liked his focused neck work. Prime Samoa Joe was something else: great selling, amazing offence and perfect character work. Pretty great crowd too (something I thought I'd never say considering it's ROH).

Yeah, this is my favourite match of the trilogy; by quite a distance as well. I like the idea of Punk trying to take things long again only to get his head burst open. Then he knows he can't take it long or he might die. The spot with Joe putting his feet on the ropes is pretty awesome and I liked the finish, too. Joe looked like he crawled out of a car wreck in the end, and that is about as close to putting Punk over as it'll get without actually, y'know, putting him over.

Third. My favourite match of the trilogy and my 2004 MOTY. I need to rewatch it, but I remember tons of action, urgency, strategies, superb offence, Punk's great selling, Joe's desperation... A lot of things to love about this masterpiece. I totally buy the Okada/Omega III comparison, but this one has more emotion I think. A perfect ending for the greatest trilogy I've ever seen in pro wrestling (yes, above Flair/Steamboat).

Just rewatched this wow it seems to only get better with age. The Steamboat 'interference' was a genius bit of match layout that vindicated Punk's face turn from earlier in the year and sets up one of the best finishing stretches ever. There's not a second of it that isn't bringing the match to a bigger crescendo and I was screaming every time Punk almost gets put away with the choke. Joe getting so desperate that he, and may God forgive me for saying this, used the ropes for leverage is another thing which in hindsight felt like his whole title reign had been leading to. This'll be in my Top 20 next time.
