tl;dr the great female worker of old, Jackie Sato, in a great darn title match against the obscure but very good Tomi Aoyama. Awesome matwork and huge bumps a plenty.
A great match! Feels like something that should be a staple for the "joshi for people who don't like joshi" pile. It has the legwork/tease the Figure 4-story that so many wrestling fans can understand, plus a classic story with Aoyama having a go at the ace. It also has that "Wow!" factor with state of the art flying moves and big time bumps used for great drama. Aoyama is pretty overzealous, but Sato is pretty much her ideal matchup and Sato has such a tremendous connection to the crowd that anything she's in automatically becomes above average. The matwork is all freaked out and luchariffic with a ton of indian deathlock work and a bunch of twisting around to escape the Figure 4. I imagine this is how they mostly worked big matches at big shows. Notice how easily they fill the time while still ending the match early enough to leave plenty on the table for the future. Just a great main event that would work anywhere in the world.

I was really impressed by this match and it was my favorite of the 3 Jackie Sato matches I've watched tonight (vs Devil and vs Yokota) and all of them have been great matches. This felt like a classic title match between two great wrestlers. I have no idea who Tomi Aoyama is, but I thought she was terrific in this match.
I cosign everything Jetlag has to say about this. Awesome (and fucking brutal) mat work, drama, huge bumps, atmosphere. This was awesome. Totally agree about this being a great joshi for people who don't like joshi match.
I did want to mention one thing, this had the greatest counter to a dropkick ever as Sato sidesteps it, sticks out a knee and turns it into a gutbuster. Holy fucking shit level spot.
Great stuff.

Watched this recently because I am going to maybe pop onto the great match generator podcast to chat about some matches (this included) soon and I absolutely loved it. I agree very much with jetlag and Elliott. I hadn't read this thread when I watched this and absolutely marked out for that drop kick counter. I also thought those jumping, spinning hair pull/face grab slams were absolutely BRUTAL. I don't know what that move is called, but fuck... they did it about as well as anyone ever here.
Good 80s joshi has such an awesome rough around the edges brutality and energy to it. Loved this.
