1997-01-05 Megumi Kudo vs. Shinobu Kandori [street fight] (LLPW @ Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan) This was an extremely brutal match. Lots of violence. One of the best brawls in joshi puroresu history. This match shows what Kudo was truly great at and it shows Kandori’s versatility. 20 min.

Second. Fantastic, smartly wrestled match. Kudo felt like the underdog here and did all she could to maintain the upper hand but Kandori's home turf advantage proved too much. Brutal and memorable finish.

THird. Great match with Kudo actually dishing out more during the body of the match than one might expect. This is like a great ECW brawl, but I couldn't think of a better ECW match than this. THe finish is fucking nuts and pretty haunting but if someone wanted to criticize them for taking too long to set it up, I wouldn't really disagree. Although that's not really a moment you want to rush through. Great match, although not something I view as a contender for my list even though I like both wrestlers and the style in which it is worked.

I just plugged my ballot into the spreadsheet and not having this match on it is my only regret so far. I saw someone else had ranked it and it felt like it belonged on my list. Alas... it never ends.

This was insane. And scary. When Kandori tried to throw Kudo over the Korakuen Hall standing section platform, with the chain around her neck, I was ready to scream involuntarily. Kudo naturally gave up to escape that fate and live up another day. Frightening but logical finish that was in perfect tune to the rest of the match and it's violent tendencies. I love Kandori coming out and wrestling in a suit. I have to think it's because she owned the place and meant business in defending her turf. Despite that the crowd was mostly behind Kudo, who put in a heck of an effort, taking right to Kandori. Kudo looked great against her as well, using the rules to her advantage, bringing chains and chairs into the mix, even busting Kandori open fits. Kandori eventually staged a comeback after a great moment in the match where she brushed Kudo off her and took off the chain that was wrapped around her neck like she was sick of Kudo’s shit. Some of the spots were cringe worthy. Kudo took a sick table bump (on a table that was upside down so the metal was exposed) and she took a chain assisted lariat into the chest like a champ. Outstanding match. Kandori showed her versatility playing into Kudo’s tendencies more than her own and she looked great despite. ****1/4

This was as fun as I remembered, but also had some troubles. The pacing might be a little bit tedious sometimes, because some spots take a lot of time to get go, and they didn't show much chemistry in this kind of match. It has a lot of memorable spots, but also some potentially amazing bombs were thrown in the middle of the match and got lost because of that, for example those fucking Tiger Driver 91, one of them on a pile of chairs. Those should have been nearfalls, but Kudo did them too early, and Kandori came back easily a few minutes later, without selling too much. But fuck it, It definitely has the appeal of a wild spectacle anyway. The good parts compensate the bad ones, definitely, but I won't consider this for my list. Still a pretty cool match, that's for sure.
