Carlos Colon vs. Hercules Ayala (WWC Barbed Wire - 1987)
Similar to the Texas Death Match I couldn't find a date on this one, just the year. But still, another great match from a great rivalry. They did a good job building off the last match by not only making this a "win via submission by figure four" match, but also ensuring it would not stop via blood loss. And to make matters even more violent, the ropes were surrounded with barbed wire. Colon was very comfortable with this (he asked for it) and Ayala was not.
The strategic use of the barbed wire is really good here. You can tell Onita was paying attention to this match. They don't just indulge in it right away, they build up to the spots as both men try to force each other into it. Occasionally the slightest bump will push one them right into the barbed wire allowing the other to get the advantage. Things do eventually get very bloody with both men's faces and backs pressed deep into the barbed wire, often getting caught between the ropes and wire itself. The leg work is also well done as both have almost every single counter available for the figure four, knowing that getting locked in it means almost certain defeat. And as always, Colon is a master babyface with all of the fire and righteous vengeance.
While not as good as the Texas Death Match, this is definitely a match I'm still considering for my list. Very violent yet strategic and intelligent. As I mentioned before, you really see how these matches influenced Onita's booking of FMW as the barbed wire match with Funk draws a lot of comparisons.

2nd
Another awesome match from these two. This is one of the great rivalries no one ever talks about. Maybe even the best Death Match rivalry ever.
Date is 9/20/87. It's the Anniversary Show.
