Surprised this hadn't been nominated yet as it's a hell of a brawl that even people who don't dig mat-based Inoki can get into. Rather than being the ace, here Inoki is hungry young guy getting beat on by the evil foreigner, and he plays it so well. He really makes all of Markoff's stuff look vicious and I love his comeback. He even busts out a good blade job to further get this over the top. I really dig the post-match as well with Inoki being treated like a hero for vanquishing the American.

always felt this was both a little bit overrated and underrated. this is bascially inoki working the baba fritz match. he puts markoffs offence a huge deal over and gets beaten to a pulp great bladejob as well. also great ace type comeback by inoki really neat brawl. post match summed this match up well it was a foreigner who is evil vs good hero type dynamic laid well.

Third. Fantastic brawl. Aggressive, cheating heel vs. fighting youngster. I should check out more young Inoki.

A true old school match. Markoff yells are hilarious, everytime he strikes, gets hit, throws Inoki etc he yells in a different way an it's so funny. There's a spot when Inoki dropkicks him from behind to throw him out of the ring, and Markoff sells it by going to the fucking other side of the stadium while yelling a lot and crashing with everything and everyone. I loved it. They executed the classic native vs cheating gaijin formula very well, some strikes doesn't look as good as others because Markoff isn't that good and we are in 1969, but this is still a very interesting match. Markoff compensates his lack of fluidity with great crowd control, and when Inoki finally takes the metalic object from him and gives him some of his own medicine, it's sooooo satisfying to watch. Inoki sold everything wonderfully and his victory felt huge, with a great post-match celebration. Pretty cool match, not something I would consider for my list but definitely worth watching.

Really enjoyed seeing Inoki in a less self indulgent and bloated format as he would put himself into for much of his later career on top. Don't think I've ever seen Markoff before but he's satisfyingly nasty in places here, might try and seek out more.

I’ve been meaning to watch this for a while and Alex’s thread prompted me to finally check it out. This was my kind of match, Markoff coming off as either dangerous or kind of stooge depending on the circumstances. I was waiting on Inoki’s comeback and it delivered. This reminded me of a really good Bruno match.
It occurs to me that my two favorite Inoki matches are from 1969 and 1996 which is quite a spread. He can be polarizing but I really dig Inoki.

This was not what I expected which is not a complaint. This felt like Inoki getting the chance to play U.S. territorial babyface, brawling with the boisterous heel who always had a hiding spot for the foreign object. The length of the match kept that from getting old as well. Markoff really performed well in his role. Great stuff.

I forgot how incredible this is. Maybe Inoki's best match? Just super. Must see.
