Chicky Starr vs Invader III (Scaffold Match - WWC - 5/86) My review from the DVDVR Puerto Rico set reviews Before getting the PR set, the only matches I’d ever seen from PR were this match and the Hansen vs Colon series. I loved this when I first saw it years ago so I’m excited to rewatch it. GODDAMN that scaffold is really high and it is ROCKING back and forth violently. This is incredibly intense because of the scaffold. Every little thing they do is enhanced. Their over the top selling is incredible. Stumbling around up their in a mask like Invader III is fucking nuts with the scaffold swaying like that. Invader III really just takes it too Chicky up there busting him wide open. OH FUCK INVADER’S DROPKICK AND CHICKY’S BUMP FROM IT! HOLY FUCK! This match is so stressful. Chicky is just covered in blood up there. Invader’s got the mask on. There’s no reason one of these dudes shouldn’t accidentally fall off of this thing that looks completely unstable anyway. THE SUPLEX. And then the body slam attempt/blocking of the bodyslam. That is some crazy crazy shit. These two are totally insane and I’ve never been more terrified watching a wrestling match. This took years off of my life. Million stars. Everyone should see this.

Second
This is the kind of match where I get why not everyone would get it, but to me it so obviously deserves to be up for a vote that I would consider it a moral crime if it didn't get a third endorsement. Just the visual terror of watching these guys on that huge scaffold with shit flying through the air, executing dropkicks and milking the moment is something that makes me want to include it. Chicky is such a loathsome bastard that you almost want him to fall off until you realize that falling off might mean death. Probably the most anxious I've ever felt watching a match.

This was nuts. Most scaffold matches I have watched have been built around the heel’s fear of falling. This kind of moved past that quickly and became a hate filled brawl that happens to be high in the air. The hate is what got them to climb the rickety thing in the first place so it makes sense to me. Then they actually pulled out a few moves which was just insane. Agree with the sentiment that everyone should watch this.

Based, on your recommendations, first time watching WWC Puerto Rico wrestling, I think I watched this match. I wonder how kept balance up there. This might be the most dynamic scaffold matches. I thought this match was solid. I am interested maybe seeing there other matches and build up.

I will give them credit for somehow managing to work a decent brawl on the top of a scaffold, and the scaffold undeniably made for a lot of drama, but as an all-time great level match this didn't really do it for me. I get the feeling I'd probably be a lot more high on this if the production was better, as just having the hardcam made it hard for me to figure out how close they were to the edge of the scaffold at point.

I think folks should watch this before submitting a ballot.

Just watched this for the first time and it blew me away. I'm quite high on early-mid 2000s spotfests, unlike a lot of people on the board, and I've seen my fair share of ridiculous bumps. This still really got to me. I agree that this is the tensest match of all time. Unlike an Exploding Barbed Wire match (those are still great), we all know how dangerous gravity can be. My favorite editing moment here is when the camera cuts to a wide shot for the first time, and we REALLY get to see how high up these guys are and just how rickety the scaffold is. I need to watch more WWC if there's more great stuff like this to sift through.

Might just be the most stress inducing match ever. Absolute amazing match, if not for another match to happen in Puerto Rico this year this would absolutely be my pick for the best match to happen in Puerto Rico.

I wanna say the best PR stuff has to be a Colon match but it might be this. Chicky Starr is a special talent that just made this work
