Figured this deserved a thread as it has a rep from Meltzer for being one of the stiffest matches ever. Very divisive but worth checking out.

Insane match, which you'd expect to see in Futen. Both guys are wearing gloves and giving eachother total hell with punches. Sakuraba spends most of the match working for submissions and he looks to rip Kanehara apart a couple times in truely Gracie Killer fashion, while Kanehara threw a few kicks that looked like nobody would get up from them. I can't remember many shootstyle matches this gritty and nasty.

Yes, this was nasty and maybe the stiffest match I've ever seen, more stiff than the famous Ikeda vs Ishikawa. The grappling is also some of the best I've seen in a worked match, with really smart and beatiful transitions from one guard to the other. All the finisher attemps from Sakuraba looked awesome and Kanehara's kicks were sick, I remember specially one direct to Sakuraba's face that almost knocked him out.
****1/2 and Top 50.

Great match. Stiffest match ever is hyperbole. Folks should just watch it with the expectation that they're about to see an awesome match.
Pride blah blah blah Gracie Killer yada yada yada. I wish Sakuraba just stayed a pro-wrestler because he's tremendous. Kanehara looks good too.
