For me, this is the best wrestling match that has taken place since the 2017 G1 Climax. I can see the snail pace putting people off but the whole thing works as a slow burning epic for me. Classic babyface-heel stuff, great dueling neck work, consistent selling, huge spots that act as effective momentum changers, logical escalation. Also shows that wrestling is not bell to bell, the pre and post match matter. 2019 MOTY.

One of the greatest matches of this current year, and a very refreshing match in modern New Japan. Taichi is an incredible heel, such and underrated worker right now, but Naito of all people puts on an amazing babyface performance. We all know he's the biggest star there, but this may be the first time Gedo book him that way since G1 27. Only blood could have made this better imo (well, and fucking Iizuka not doing the chair assault in slow motion).

I hope someone at some point put a stop to the DESTINOOOOOOOOOO call.
Naito is weird because of all of these big NJPW wrestlers I'd say he comes the closest to having matches I like while still not exactly having matches that I like. Anyway. This is neat & a breath of fresh air for NJPW main events but it's also kinda annoying at times. More of this though would be welcome. I dunno. Weird one.

Naito is my favorite of the modern NJPW guys specifically because he seems to emphasize character work the most in his matches.

I hope someone at some point put a stop to the DESTINOOOOOOOOOO call. Did you watch it in japanese or english commentary? Kevin Kelly actually SINGS it.
