Chigusa Nagayo & Dynamite Kansai vs Mayumi Ozaki & Devil Masami (GAEA Japan - 4/15/1995)
Might be the finest example of both a brawl AND a bombfest. Chains, chairs, a table, a turnbuckle piece, and a sword(!), yet a ton of heavy strikes and powerbombs. The underlying story seemed to be Kansai trying to get revenge on Ozaki following the street fight just a month earlier (I could be mistaken but that's the narrative I ran with). Nagayo and Kansai are clearly the superior fighters but Ozaki and Masami's cunning and willingness to bring weapons into the equation not only even the odds, but prove to be the difference maker.
A violent yet incredibly creative spectacle.

GAEA's YouTube channel just uploaded their version of this match here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_XzyUUhZtEI'd seen this before but the GAORA TV version with commentary, which must have detracted from it as this is significantly better than I remember. The crowd is absolutely on fire once things really start to kick off, and once it does it just never stops escalating, which is very impressive for a 30 minute match which absolutely flew by. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet but by the final minutes this is absolute carnage in as great a way as possible. The hate between the two teams, the urgency, the different role each team member plays, the believable selling, all stuff you sadly just barely ever seen in modern wrestling anymore. Even Devil Masami's "Super Heel" gimmick she's working here doesn't detract from the match at all, it just makes her a distinctive character within it (sadly this would not be the case in later years when she overdid the goofiness of it).
Im gonna have to rewatch this later (I just watched it for the first time in years like an hour ago) but on first glance this is only slightly below the best of the 80s Joshi tags.

I really want to watch the entire run of GAEA. They were consistently awesome from 95 until like 2002 when I stopped watching.

Just watched it again and its awesome. There are some points where I'd quibble with selling or taking to long to set up a spot. But this is fantastic. The sort of match ECW fans thought they were seeing at the Arena, but weren't.

I've seen very little GAEA, so perhaps this isn't special, but an aspect that helped the match is the split fans. It seems that Chigusa effect is in full force and there are a lot of female fans in attendance rooting for her whilst the male fans are into Ozaki and Devil. Made for a really rowdy atmosphere that complimented the match very well.

I loved it. Street Fight Mayumi Ozaki in her element. One of the best matches of 1995 for sure.
