Welcome to the Greatest Match Ever Project, an annual project that surveys the greatest professional wrestling matches of all times. Here you will find the basic rules we ask you to follow. This is not a complicated board and it is more or less just a great place to talk about wrestling, but it can get unwieldy with vast number of matches we are considering so we ask you to please do your best to help us out here.
Nominating Matches
1. Before nominating a match please see the Index of Nominees to make sure the match isn't already nominated. The index is organized by date and should be pretty easy to navigate. If it is not in the index please do a quick search in the nomination process thread to make sure someone hasn't nominated the match and it just isn't through. The search function can be a little unreliable, so try a few different search terms within that forum.
2. If you would like to nominate a match please start a thread in the Nomination Process forum. Do not direct nominate something unless you are a mod. Consult our directions for titling your thread here and what constitutes a quality nomination here.
3. Matches can be moved to the nominees thread in two ways: it can receive 2 additional confirmation from separate members (in the form of a clear "second" and "third") or you may advocate for a direct nomination by writing a thorough paragraph that focuses heavily on why it deserves nomination. Paragraphs will be judged not by length but by the case made for the match. We aren't trying to limit nominations, but we do want to have some minimum standards and make sure we are able to keep the index organized.
4. In each case, a mod will move matches from the nomination process forum to the nominees forum periodically. Please let mods do this so we may make sure everything makes it into the index, which will be your easiest way to find matches.
5. If you think a match has reached the threshold for nomination, but has not been moved after a month or so please contact an administrator (list below) and let us know so we can take a look.
Casting a Ballot
1. Every other year we will accept new ballots for the top 100 greatest matches of all time. As of right now, ballots will be cast on Terry Funk's birthday (June 30th).
2. A google form will be set up and posted to the forum for the given year, which you will use to submit your ballot.
3. Please list matches as they appear on the Index Page. This will help us tabulate the ballots much quicker and reduce the chances of mistake since we are dealing with hundreds of matches.
4. Ballots will be tabulated and the results posted yearly and the project will begin anew.
Discussion and Participation
There are obviously very few rules for discussion, but we do like to maintain a certain culture here that we ask you follow.
1. There are no restrictions on vulgar language, but we do ask that you remain civil in your conversation. You are welcome to be critical of matches, but remember that everyone's tastes are different. Anyone who is aggressive, confrontational, or resorts to personal attacks will be warned once. After that they will be banned.
2. Try to respect the notion of "greatest matches". There are a wide range of matches that can fall under this, but avoid nominating or advocating for matches that fall well outside the purview of greatness to you. If someone else wants to advocate for them, great, but we don't need people throwing something up just because it exists. You are welcome to nominate matches that you don't intend to vote for but still think are great and worthy of conversation, but use common sense when nominating.
3. No spam... no harassment.... no nonsense... All of this will result in an immediate ban. Particularly, any racism, sexism, homophobia or the like will get you a quick ban.
4. Use the sub forums. We have a sub forum for all individual project discussions (ie individual members talking through their lists and watching etc) and a sub forum for comparison and contrasts if you would like to start a discussion comparing and contrasting matches, wrestlers, eras, genres, or whatever else. Again, our search function doesn't work GREAT, so do your best to see if a thread already exists. If you miss it we can always combine threads later, no big deal.
Fixing Mistakes on the Board
With the vast number of threads we have there is a good chance that there will be plenty of mistakes regarding dates, nominations, participants, promotions, etc etc etc. If you find a mistake please help us fix it effectively:
1. Contact a mod (Cap, Elliot, Bossrock, microstatistics, kadaveri, mvz). You can include us all in a message if you like to make sure one of us sees it.
2. Be as clear as possible about what the mistake is and what needs to be fixed.
3. Provide a link to the thread if possible.
4. The above directions do not apply to reporting spam. If you see spam on the board just report the post and we will be notified.
