Nobuhiko Takada vs Hiroshi Hase (NJPW - 3/11/88)
Spectacular match. I think this is the best Juniors match between the end of Fujinami as a Junior and the beginning of the Liger gimmick. I love the structure with Hase blasting Takada before the bell and dominating the early portion of the match forcing Takada to make a long slow comeback. I have always enjoyed that approach to structure & psychology and these guys do a great job of it. The finishing run is awesome with both guys throwing bombs. It might be hindsight, but watching this match its no surprise Takada would become the biggest draw in Japan within 5 years of this match because he is ridiculously over with this crowd. This might actually be the hottest crowd for a juniors match that I can ever remember.
My only real quibble with this match is Hase's selling in submission holds. He would at times treat shoot style submissions like they were restholds. You can't just lay around in a Fujiwara armbar. However, Hase's selling of strikes, fatigue, overall damage and more pro-wrestling style moves is really great.
Anyway, this is a great match and folks should take a look at it.
