I can absolutely see an argument for him being the GOAT. He is so charismatic and dynamic and produced a ton of great matches. He also produced excellent matches over a massive amount of time. I actually think there is probably a lot out there from him I haven't even seen. I'd love to see some recs for lesser known Casas matches.

I think I actually prefer 2010's Casas to 80's-90's Casas. It almost seems to be the reverse with him where as a wrestler gets older they slow down and work a more reserved style. But with Casas, he seemed to go from technical to more sprinty and workratey as the years went on. And he's still terrific. Just last year he got a legitimately good match out of the incredibly ho-hum Sam Adonis and had an awesome sprint with Aramis.

If its on a yearbook or an 80s set I just assume its well known in our circles. So with that said, if you haven't seen Casas vs Ultimo Dragon from 3/19/93, that's a fantastic example of Casas having a truly amazing match against a goodish but certainly not great (at least yet) worker.

I recall he had two matches with Dragon and I thought they were both great.

That Ultimo match is absolutely great and knocked me on my arse when I saw it the first time because I never expected Dragon to be involved in anything so good in 1993. There's at least one lead-in trios that exceptional as well.
Casas is my GOAT pick as of this point in the year two thousand and nineteen AD. The beauty of lucha is that every year another couple matches we never knew existed show up and totally blow your socks off.

I've never connected with Casas the way I do with other great wrestlers. I've seen him in every setting and recognize he is amazing, but a most of the guys I consider GOATCs are people I would also deem "favorites." Guys like Terry Funk, Satanico, Tamura, Santo, Lawler Hansen & Fujiwara are some of my favorite wrestlers. Casas just never has been. I've probably gone out of my way to look for Tommy Rich matches more often than Negro Casas matches (obviously Casas is much better than Rich) for example.
I've seen 100s of Casas matches and could easily make a case for him as the GOAT. But I've never felt it like I do when watching the other people I think are GOATCs. Its not like what DylanWaco would say about Jumbo. I don't have this visceral negative reaction to the idea of Casas. He's just not my guy, which is weird because he's clearly an amazing wrestler and 1/2 of my top rivalry ever.
