ROH Title run is still an all timer for me. A few months back I watched some matches from it and forgot how just solid it all was. His feuds with Daniels and Homicide get too easily forgotten. He has a lot of matches in a lot of promotions that I think probably deserve a watch for a project like this.

There's still a lot of his ROH stuff I haven't seen as well as his later TNA stuff, but he was arguably the best in the world in 2005. And that's when A.J. was having one of his best years ever.

Yeah his ROH and mid 00s TNA stuff is awesome, his peak might be one of the greatest in ring peaks to ever be achieved by a pro wrestler, but let's talk about how he's able to still look like a dangerous badass while suffering from mediocre to bad booking. That's his late TNA and WWE main roster stuff in a nutshell. Few people can have that aura for that long.

Honest to god, if you told me he would be the best promo on the planet even 5 years ago I would have laughed. He has really evolved in a really compelling way and has become such a valuable part of the WWE roster for it.

Between 04-05, Joe was untouchable and the best wrestler on the planet, and while he would never achieve that peak again in-ring, he has evolved in just about every other way since then to make him a joy to watch to this day.

I watched his match with Necro Butcher again the other night with a buddy. Its gotta be in the conversation of best brawls/sprints. Its a match I always enjoyed, but I think I genuinely appreciate it more as something legit great every time I see it.

Arguably the biggest standout in the 2000s American indies. Kind of the original big fish in a small pond. What WALTER was to the indies/Europe circa 2018 but even bigger. So good at bringing an absurd level of intensity and passion to everything he does

What could be Joe's post-2008 best matches? I really like the first Nakamura match on NXT, the Sami Zayn 2/3 Falls match and the Lesnar match, but I'm sure he has more underrated, very good and great matches throughout the 10s. He has a big role in the SummerSlam 2017 fatal four way with Brock, Strowman and Reigns, a crazy sprint with Tomasso Ciampa at a random NXT show in 2015, a great US Title fatal four way at Fastlane 2019, and there's gotta be more great stuff I don't remember from the first half of the decade.

Off the top of my head, that fatal four way at SS stands out.

I know I liked one of the AJ matches in their long feud, but I have absolutely no idea which one, since they had seemingly 40 matches and Joe lost every single one of them. And it truly might've been only one good and the rest in the 'meh' category.
I tend to forgive it, though, because as Cap said 15 months ago, he became such an amazing talker, even when he was slowing in the ring, he was still appointment TV.

Joe's match with Austin Aries at Slammiversary 2012 is really good.
None of the matches from the 2018 AJ feud are blowaway great, but they're all pretty good. I'm pretty sure the match they had in Australia is the best of the bunch.
I remember liking the 2019 match against Kofi Kingston at Extreme Rules. Probably Kofi's best title defense during his reign.

Looking back at my notes.
I was relatively high on the Styles match from SummerSlam. Their whole feud was solid, but that one stands out to me for whatever reason.
I also quite liked the Brooklyn and Toronto Nakamura matches. Again, I was probably relatively high on that whole feud.
The Zayn 2/3 falls match was excellent
I think I would still have the hoss 4-way as the best of the lot. I haven't seen much from him in TNA after 2006ish though.

A great late Samoa Joe match is vs. Roman Reigns on Raw 01/01/18.
I also think the match against Styles in Australia was the best one.

I'm not sure I saw that one. Was it a special? I can't recall?

It was Super Show-Down, which took place in October of 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and aired live on the award-winning WWE Network. The show was headlined by a godawful HHH/Undertaker match which set up the even worse DX/Brothers of Destruction match in Saudi Arabia.
