Even as a recent shoot-style convert, this match flew by and the 30 minutes felt like 15. Tamura looks a lot different since I last saw him during the Volk Han trilogy. He's no longer a pretty boy, but he's now more built up and looks like a total badass. This was two mat maestros putting on some of the most impressive matwork and submission wrestling that I'd ever seen in a pro-wrestling match. These two are so proud and headstrong that they refused to give up a rope break unless it's absolutely necessary and we don't see a rope break until 13 minutes into the match! The strikes that followed the first rope break are incredibly intense and you could tell that Tamura was ashamed and pissed off that he was the first fighter to have to use the ropes to break a hold. They mostly stick to grappling after this, but once it's announced that 20 minutes had expired and that there were 10 minutes left on the clock, they start wailing on each other again. They both look exhausted by this point, but they still have a lot of heart and the final few minutes were super tense. I didn't care who won, I just wanted a decisive winner. This was amazing stuff that every fan needs to see once they are accustomed to shoot-style. ★★★★★

Absolutely unreal match. Wonderful matwork throughout the whole match, amazing second half of the match, awesome strikes and great teasing/usage of the ropes to break the holds. A 30 minutes that absolutely flies by and feels like 10 minutes. Almost certainly a lock for my top 20.

Can safely say that this is one of the greatest matches of this style. I love me some RINGS but this was just on another level IMO. This was an exhilarating 30 minutes battle with some slick but tight submissions and some fantastic, pin point striking. The first ten minutes was pure grappling with no rest, it was non stop with the two constantly fighting to get one top and control the fight. Tamura used his experience and skills to keep on top and control the holds but Kohsaka held his own, defending well and constantly got some great submissions in. And then the seam transition into the striking was wonderful. The action is very explosive and it brought all sorts of intensity to the mix. Then a beautiful climax to the time limit draw. I'm struggling to put this into words tbh. This is fantastic. *****

Umm, okay??? I guess you have to understand shoot-style and the point system to get a better grasp of the in-ring psychology in these matches, but it's right there in front of us!

Still my pick for the most athletically impressive match of all time and there's no rope running, dives or anything like that which folks usually associate with athleticism in wrestling. Tamura was just an absolute freak of an athlete & Kohsaka is obviously no slouch either. I gotta rewatch this it's been at least a year

I feel like people tend to not get that different styles have different variations of psychology and storytelling.
