Prime Hogan could go and he has produced some of the best "pro-wrestlng" wrestling matches. I feel like the pendulum swings so hard on him. People feel like he gets underrated and then his stock soars. Then he feels overhyped (at least in terms of in-ring ability) and he gets dogged on. I am as guilty as anyone. But that is how you know Hogan was great. There is no middle ground. There is no nuance. There is love and there is hate and there is every emotional response between.

What do yall think is the best Hogan match? Do you consider that match a top 100 candidate?

I'd go with either the Vader match at Superbrawl or the Desert Storm Match against Sgt. Slaughter. Neither would make my list, but they wouldn't look out of place in the lower reaches of someone's top 100.

Its tough to say. I haven't really thought of it much to be honest. I think there are probably a couple ways took at it. I think something like the Savage match from Mania V or the Bockwinkel (AWA - 4/18/1982) would be what I would call Hogan's "best match" in the most traditional sense of the term. However, I think you have to go with a more sports entertainment scale for him (which is a perfectly acceptable way to think of great matches). In that sense, I would say the Warrior match from Mania VI would be my favorite. The match vs The Rock at Mania 18 is somewhere in the middle. I feel like there is something obvious I am leaving out or probably some gems from Japan. Regardless, there is nothing I really would consider for my list. I'd like to say I want to check out the Rock match again, but every time I do I sort of see it the same, "great match, totally get why people love it like they do, probably not as high on it as those people".
I haven't watched it since it happened I don't think, but I wonder how the Hogan vs Vince match from Mania 19 holds up. I know its nominated.

I'd go with the Rock match but I think the Bockwinkel match would be a good second. That's a really great match. Its been a million years since I watched the 1980 Philly match with Backlund. But I know that got a lot of praise back in the day when folks rediscovered it.
There's nothing from 80s NJPW I would consider. There are some really fun matches for sure that folks should watch. Even something like Hogan vs Fujinami that finished 125th on the NJPW 80s set voting is absolutely worth watching.
There's some 90s Hogan in Japan stuff that I would like to revisit that I haven't seen in years and years. vs Hansen 90, vs Tenryu 91 & w/ Tenryu vs Road Warriors are probably the most pimped ones. Although I really want to watch the Hogan vs Great Muta match from 93. On paper, that's the exact sort of thing I hated in 2000 but really dig in 2019.

I just watched the vince match and I think its in that conversation. It honestly could have made my list if they didn't bust out every overbooking/overthinking trick they could think of down the stretch. The brawl part was perfect to me, peak wwe and peak hogan playing to his skills.
Yeah, the Muta match is something I haven't watched in forever but a buddy of mine is always talking about how its the best hogan match.

I watched the Vince match two days ago, and boy was it fun. I think that's the most "on paper awful matches but then were awesome" match I've seen. Not something I would consider great, but definitely more than decent because they both know they are two of the best wrestling characters ever, and made the match revolve around that. Even the Piper cameo, as dumb as it was, was pretty fun because Piper is also an amazing wrestling character. This could be the best "WWE sports entertainment" exhibition ever.
