The "Fifth Pillar" of AJPW. Doesn't quite have the same amount of peak singles matches as the others (although I think he has more than Taue), but part of some absolutely classic tag team matches with both Misawa and Kobashi. Was also able to adapt his style and has had insane longevity because of it. Very much like Liger who works a less rigorous schedule but is still one of the best in the world. He's also had great evolution to his character, starting off as the promising rookie, becoming the near-equal of the other Pillars in tag matches, turning heel in NOAH, and now as a grumpy ass-kicker.

I'd rate him above all the corners except Kobashi.

What are people's top AKiyama match other than vs Misawa or Kobashi? I know Micro loves the Masao Inoue match and that is a great one.

I would be incredibly remiss if I left out the match with Shibata in WRESTLE-1.

Those last 5 matches from 2013-18 are all from AJPW?

Is maybe Akiyama, out of the Pillars and himself, the one with the greatest veteran post-peak run? Really seems like it.

Ok, but what if Kobashi's peak was 1993?

Kobashi's peak was his entire career.

The Hase match has its haters but I absolutely love it and it did pretty well on my list. Starts off with some top notch amateur style matwork before turning into a violent oneupmanship contest. It's the match that Kobashi/Sasaki wishes it was. Well worth watching if you haven't. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR_BxfWrJmQOther great Akiyama singles not mentioned would be 98 Ogawa, 99, 2012, and 2014 Omori, the whole Suwama series, Tenzan G1 final, Hashi 2004, Kawada 95 CC, and Taue 2006 GHC.

Is there a big Akiyama vs Takayama match? Quick look has two matches from 2010 and 11, which might be a little late for Takayama?
