Carlos Colon was the pioneer of death match wrestling (or at least laid the ground work), but Onita was the one who turned it into its own style. One of the most captivating wrestlers of all time with an unreal amount of physical charisma and star power. Underrated brawler with great psychology in building up to the violence rather than indulging in it. The Funk match is obviously his most famous but the Tenryu cage match and the 1990 Texas Death math (the greatest Texas Death match ever) with Goto against Kurisu and Dragon Master are arguably his best.

I also really dig his 1989 matches against Aoyagi. The 2/91 match with Goto rules. The Tenryu tag leading up to the cage match. I really want to dive into early era FMW at some point.
