People seem relatively divided on this, but I am ALL IN on this. I have rewatched it twice just to make sure I wasn't overreacting, but this match is unbelievably awesome and there is one real reason. This is not either man's best technical match. It probably could have gone a little longer. But... this match had something you can't buy. Well, maybe you can, but it is really hard. This match had a truly organic feeling of chaos and stakes that didn't feel planned. I have no idea if they planned for Walter to power bomb Fenix's mask off multiple times and for eventually a fan to throw his replica mask to Fenix so he could finish the match. Because I have no idea, it doesn't matter! It felt real. This match felt like it got off the rails and because it featured two absolute professionals they kept going and they made it all work. If a fan legit through their mask to Fenix in the middle of the match so he could finish then this is automatically in consideration for a greatest match ever list. That is the perfect amount of fan interaction for the protagonist without being contrived or awkward. Oh... and Walter, in an attempt to really make sure night two was great, set the pace by returning to bruising Walter form while simultaneously selling beautifully for the much smaller Fenix. In turn, this match elevated the tournament in a real way and really made sure Walter was established for his "final boss" roll later in the tournament.
Also, Walter finishes this match in a way that truly solidifies "shit-head Walter" as a thing. He pulls the second mask right off while trying to choke him out and Fenix had to tap to save his identity. Fenix still looks absolutely amazing, but Walter gets everything he needs out of the match. This is an old school match and it only goes 11 minutes or so. It captures a feeling of chaos and danger in a way that is near impossible to accomplish today. I have a ton of time for this and think it belongs in the conversation with the best of this last half of the decade.
