The best Tanahashi match (and performance) I've seen. It's hard to go wrong with arm vs. leg and consistent selling but this also had animosity, aggression and a clear face vs. heel divide. The best NJPW match of 2017 after Okada/Omega III.

Second. The best of their 2017 trilogy. Great story and selling while taking spots and sequences from their previous matches and expanding upon them, including a goddamn incredible cloverleaf spot.

Watched this at Tetsujin’s recommendation. I have watched some recent NJPW but have not really followed it, I just lean toward older stuff, but this had some of those timeless elements that one would want to see in a great match. Having each wrestler focusing on an injured limb is just a sure fire way to get me invested. And the match kept building on itself to a dramatic finish.

It lost me down the stretch but I thought the first half or so was awesome and I was enjoying it more than just about any of the big NJPW matches from this era before that. So fun stuff kinda.
