Another wrestler near the top of the "GAWD I wish we had a comprehensive look at his prime" list. The teeny bit we have of him from the mid 80s is truly remarkable but his best stuff probably came from the mid 70s-early 80s.
Perro was an incredible brawler. Kind of like a mini Lucha Stan Hansen who was always moving forward with his fists clenched ready to punch a guy in the face. Only more charismatic. Like take the best aspects of Stan Hansen & Dusty Rhodes and mash them up into a smaller Lucha package and you get Perro Aguayo. I love his two big moves the double foot stomp & the senton and how he would frequently use bigger and bigger versions of them as the match moved on (from the ground then from the first, 2nd turnbuckle etc). He's on the short list for best bleeders in wrestling history without question.
I'm doing this off the top of my head but several matches jump out in my brain when I think of Perro's best matches.
Of course the Chicana match from 86 is the most famous and is about as good as a wrestling match can be.
The 4 way Elimination w/ Chicana, Villano III & El Faraon is truly fantastic and the Perro vs Chicana section is what takes it over the top as I recall.
The Gran Hamada match from the first UWF show isn't an all time classic top 100 contender, but is a truly excellent match that is a bit more restrained than Perro's more over the top matches.
Speaking of restrained, the title match against Villano III is excellent. Now, you don't really want to see Perro vs Villano III in a title match. Don't get me wrong, you want to see that. But those two guys are two of the best brawlers & bleeders in wrestling history. But this is an awesome glimpse to see Perro as more than just a brawler.
The two I often think of though are more oddball picks from long past his peak that I think best get across how good Perro. The When Worlds Collide main event cage match against Konnan is a legit great spectacle. Perro is incredible in it bumping and bleeding all over the place and double stomping the bejeesus out of Konnan. You will be shocked at the quality of that match.
The other one that is shockingly great is the March 30, 2001 Hair vs Mask match against Universo 2000. That match is a knock-your-socks-off, killer match. Truly a great spectacle that I once convinced MattD to watch and he compared it to a lucha version of Steve Austin vs Dude Love. I strongly encourage folks to check out that match.
