Ok I just posted a list of what I thought were the highest end Liger matches because Micro mentioned Liger didn't always hit the highest peaks like Rey Jr. Then I went over to the Rey Jr thread and there's Bossrock saying Rey Jr didn't always hit the highest peak like Liger.
So I'm like, what the fuck, this needs a thread.
So who had the better best matches/performances Jushin Liger or Rey Jr? And what were they? Who had more diversity of opponents in their top matches?

I think when it comes to variety of opponents and match types, it's Rey. When it comes to peak performances, it's Liger. Rey is a better high-flier although you can't really hold that against Liger as he had to adjust his style in the 90's. I think Liger is a better technical wrestler. Both are pretty great sellers.
Crap this is tough haha. Really, I think you could rank one over the other and make a compelling argument either way.

My gut instinct says Liger, though it's extremely close. I remember actually being disappointed the first time I saw Liger, cause I was expecting more of a high flyer than he actually was, but he very quickly grew on me. Liger I think had more diversity and you pretty much hit the nail on the head for Liger matches in the other thread.
As for Rey's best matches, I'd say:
Vs Eddie 10/26/1997 Vs Jericho 06/28/2009 Vs Juventud 03/09/1996 Vs Juventud 03/16/1996 Vs Psychosis 07/07/1996 Vs Psychosis 10/07/1995 Vs John Morrison 09/01/2009 Vs Prince Puma 01/31/2016
And a ton of amazing tag matches.

Adding to Rey's best matches, Kas mentioned these: Vs Eddie 10/26/1997 Vs Jericho 06/28/2009 Vs Juventud 03/09/1996 Vs Juventud 03/16/1996 Vs Psychosis 07/07/1996 Vs Psychosis 10/07/1995 Vs John Morrison 09/01/2009 Vs Prince Puma 01/31/2016
I would include: vs Juventud 11/30/94 vs Juventud 4/21/95 vs Psicosis 9/22/95 (I think this is their best match) vs Malenko 6/16/96 (GAB, SUPER underrated imo, best Malenko match ever) vs Ultimo Dragon 11/24/96 (WW3) vs El Hijo del Santo 2/23/97 vs Kurt Angle 8/25/02 (SummerSlam) vs Eddie 6/23/05 (that's the smackdown one, right?) vs Finlay 11/9/07 vs Punk 5/23/10 vs John Cena 7/25/11 vs Low Ki 11/14/15
I dunno, I think it might be EVEN CLOSER THAN WE THINK at the top. Looking at my Liger list, there's some interesting comps.
Liger/Hash or Rey/Cena? Liger/Sano or Rey/Eddy? Liger/Sasuke or Rey/Juvy? Liger/Ohtani or Rey/Psicosis? Liger/Kanemoto or Rey/Low Ki? Liger/Samurai or Rey/Jericho Liger/Pillman or Rey/Malenko?
Etc etc etc. Going in I would have agreed with the idea that liger's top tier stuff is better, but I'm not sure I know anymore.

I'm surprised there's been no mention of Rey-Psicosis 12/13/1995 from WAR. That to me is their best match.

I think the 9/22/95 match has the most substance. The WAR match is great as a spectacular spot fest but it always felt more like an exhibition than a really competitive match.

The best Mysterio-Psicosis match to me is definitely the Bash At The Beach 1996.
But to me Liger's best is just that little bit better than Rey's best (Mysterio still better overall though)

I have also always really loved that Bash at the Beach match.
