I think MS-1 might be the most transparently underrated wrestler ever. Basically everyone in our circles has seen the famous Hair match with Sangre Chicana and usually folks talk about how great Chicana is, but MS-1 gives quite possibly the greatest rudo performance in history in that exact same match. Satanico has become widely considered a #1 luchadore candidate and he regularly teamed with MS-1 for years with MS-1 often putting on great performances in many of the same matches as Satanico. I'm not sure why he doesn't have the rep others do. Outside of the Chicana matches, he really doesn't have the top tier singles matches, but the only luchadores I would confidently say are better are Satanico, Santo, Casas & Dandy. He's on that next tier down with folks like Atlantis, Chicana, Villano III & Fuerza.
All this really just a roundabout way of saying MS-1 is the fucking bomb. Basically the perfect heel. Cocky as fuck, impossibly handsome, fantastic offense and then when it comes time to bump, stooge & sell he is outstanding. He is the definition of a heat machine. Super charismatic. Doesn't get the love he deserves.

I am super guilty of underselling MS-1 on the whole. I think the problem is that he is always a bridesmaid. You can say he had an all time performance against Sangre Chicana AND that he was the second best wrestler in the match and be right. Maybe you want to say he was Sangre's equal of even better, but he doesn't have - as you said - really other stand out singles where Sangre Chicana does. Being next to Satanico in all those matches may help his resume, but you can see how he gets a little lost in the shuffle. That all said, you re right. MS-1 is dope and definitely needs more credit. My list of shit I want to watch is longer than I will have time to get to for the forseeable future, but I do hope to carve out some time for more lucha in general and specifically more trios stuff. I have watched a lot of it, but i haven't really seriously sat down with it.

He does have the run against Satanico in 89 where Satanico went tecnico. That run had the MS-1 & Tierra Viento y Fuego vs Satanico & Atlantis apuestas match and MS-1 & Masakre vs Satanico & Dandy, both of which are classic matches with MS-1 vs Satanico being the key storyline.
