I fucking loved that 04 Kobashi match you maniacs voted so high in the GME poll. What else is your top tier Takayama stuff?

I might actually prefer the 2000 Kobashi match (its neck and neck). I also absolutely love the Suwama match from 2009.
I need to watch more Takayama. I honestly sort of slept on him for too long. I am prone to hyperbole, but I am confident that he is one of the very best when it comes to elevating a match at the drop of a hat. When he is done taking someone's shit and throws some hands... its ON and its a visceral reaction he can pull from the audience.

In addition to the 2004 Kobashi match, I had the 2002 Takayama/Misawa GHC match and Takayama/Suzuki vs. Nagata/Yamamoto from 2006 in my top 100. Takayama/KENTA from 2004 and No Fear vs. Burning from 1999 are also must-sees.

Yeah, I'm one of those weird guys who digs the 2000 Kobashi match more as well. I find it tighter and more creatively structured.
Other top tier stuff would be the Sano UWFi series, 1997 tag w/ Albright vs. HDA, 1999 Kawada, the 1999/2001/2002 Misawa matches, 2002 Ogawa, 2002/2004 Sasaki matches, 2002 Nagata, 2009 Suwama, 2010 Nakamura, 2010 Sugiura GHC, and 2011 KENTA. I also dig the 2003 and 2008 6-mans vs. Kobashi a lot as well. Dude definitely never shied away from putting his body through hell to elevate a match. Always thought it was kind of crazy that it was a sunset flip botch of all things that did him in.

I'm another peculiar fellow who prefers the 2000 Kobashi match. I struggled to really get into the first half of the 2004 match last time I watched it, whereas I was all the way into the 2000 match as soon as Takayama runs him over at the bell. Back half of the 2004 match is huge and epic and probably better than the back half in 2000, but as a whole the 2000 match grabbed me more. Also thought they played up the arm in 2000 better than in the GHC match. Would also agree that it's tighter.
One of my favourite low-key Takayama performances is in the Takayama/Sato v Ohtani/Omori tag from Zero-One (2/18/07). Ohtani and Omori cut him open and pretty much bully him until Tak goes absolutely full on fuck this and kills them both dead. It's probably my Japanese MOTY for '07.
His resume is actually really strong the more I think about it. I might've had him too low during the GWE.

The 2004 Kobashi match made my list while the 2000 one did not, but I re-watched the first match and I could be convinced that it's better.

Just watched the Zero1 tag and Takayama's rampage of righteous vengeance at the end is a thing of absolute beauty.
