Talk about a weird looking match-up on paper. Having only seen his matches against Steamboat and Bob Orton I didn't really know what to expect from Orndorff, but what we got here was a fantastic street fight. Orndorff rips apart Cactus' knee with weapons, submissions, and even suplexing his knee onto the guard rail in a particularly nutty spot. Cactus was his usual unhinged self, taking absolutely mad bumps (when is he not?) and starting the match up by threatening Orndorff with a shovel. All the way through his selling is really great, and it's a testament to his and Orndorff's abilities that they managed to get such sympathy from the crowd for Cactus. The ending is especially gratifying, with Orndorff taunting the crowd and calling for a piledriver onto a chair, only to turn around and eat a massive shovel shot from Cactus after just 12 minutes of action. I adore this match and it would definitely make my top 100.

Incredibly underrated match that has flown under the radar for so long. It didnt even make the 1993 Yearbook, which is pretty amazing given how exhaustive those were. I watched this on a whim when I decided to watch the Superbrawl III card front to back. I hardly every watch whole. I much prefer to cherry pick selected matches. I watched loved it so much. I watched it again and wrote a review. Its that good. I second this.
Cactus Jack vs "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff - WCW SuperBrawl III Street Fight
I feel like Orndorff must have been besides himself when Cactus told him what he wanted to do and then Orndorff was like I have no qualms kicking the living shit out of you. This is a far, far departure from working with Hogan. Truth be told, Orndorff missed his calling as a sadist. Sometimes, it takes a masochist to bring out the sadist in us.
The Titantron really revolutionized the ability to do these street fights and still get crowd heat. With all the brawling around the ring, it must have been hard for at least half the crowd to see at time hurting the live heat.
Awesome match! I really enjoyed this one. From Orndorff doing an interview to having Cactus threaten him with the shovel. Orndorff crawling away on his hands and knees while Cactus attacked with the shovel was great. We get the Cactus Jack bump a thon like elbow onto Orndorff who is on concrete and the always stupid Sunset Flip from the apron to the exposed concrete. What helps this match a lot is that Cactus is a babyface so it means that Orndorff can dish out the punishment and Cactus can take his nutty bumps. The Orndorff heat section is awesome. Throwing him over multiple railings, SUPLEXING HIM ONTO THE RAILING!, great knee work, punching him straight in the mouth. Loved tearing off the knee brace, figure-4, slamming knee into exposed concrete and then slamming a chair into the knee. Best heat segment I have seen in forever. Orndorff calls for the piledriver on the chair and starts doing the Hogan cup the ear to taunt the crowd. When he turns eats a shovel to the face!!! Awesome finish. Cactus took a lickin but kept on tickin and a great finish to show you cant leave an opponent hanging around. Loved this! ****

Third.
Foley’s work in WCW is pretty historically significant because it serves as the bridge between 80s-style brawling and the ECW style of weapons and stunt bumps. In fact, this is one of the few matches that wouldn’t look out of place in either Memphis in the 80s or ECW in the 90s. It’s a falls count anywhere match, so to really put the gimmick over, they spend hardly any time in the ring. We get the requisite nutty Foley bumps along with Orndorff using anything he can get his hands on to tear Jack’s leg apart. He even rips off Jack’s knee brace and uses it as a weapon. The Observer reported at the time that they had to go home early because Orndorff forgot several planned spots, but I honestly don’t know what more they could have done to each other.

I wanted to watch this match in Orndorff's honor. And what a performance he gave here, very focused and vicious. The wrestler I am used to was intense, but it felt like he had a wink at times and was not quite as serious typically as what I saw here. He went through a laundry list of moves, some of them pretty unusual or innovative.
I really liked the match and Orndorff's performance was great. Cactus was giving and memorable, but I confess I wince watching the sunset flip to the concrete and the Nestea plunge. I was grateful we didn't have the chair shot to the head for the hat trick. It is a Foley match and I know what to expect, but there is something about it that makes me feel bad.
The finish might feel like a bit of a copout to some, but I was on board with it. Fun wrestling.
For people like me whose initial fandom was defined by Hogan/McMahon style wrestling, Orndorff was kind of a cool heel in his initial run in 84-85. And his turn and feud with Hogan probably solidified my fandom. RIP Mr. Wonderful.
