Bret Hart & Davey Boy Smith vs Owen Hart & Bob Backlund (WWF Action Zone – 2/26/95) The other great Action Zone tag team match. This is an awesome old school southern tag with a super hot crowd. Fantastic work with from all 4 guys, but Bret’s face in peril leg selling is probably the highlight of the match for me. Should be talked about as one of the great tag matches in WWE company history. I talk a lot of crap about Jim Ross, but I like to give credit where credit is due and he is phenomenal on commentary here. Great stuff all around.

Second.
How amazing is it that a short-lived B-show like Action Zone featured two of the greatest tags in the history of the company? The Kliq tag from the previous year was spectacular, and this is almost as good. Owen and Backlund are a well-oiled machine as they make constant switches and tear Bret’s leg apart Anderson-style. In fact, they probably spent too much time on the leg. I normally appreciate laser-like focus on a body part, but Bret couldn’t do much more but lie there and sell while his leg was being worked on. The match would have benefited from a couple of Kawada-style hope spots where Bret couldn’t reach his corner due to leg damage. Backlund may have actually been the star of the show, as his constant well-timed interference in blatant disregard of the stupid one save rule kept things moving and infuriated the crowd. Him running in to turn Bret back over after he had managed to reverse an Owen figure-four was the match’s clear highlight. Bret hobbling over to put Backlund in the sharpshooter on the outside to prevent him from interfering at the end was an excellent payoff.

Third. The match was essentially an extended FIP segment, which limited the ceiling, but was well worth checking out nonetheless. Bret's selling and Backlund's heel antics are standouts.

Well it has been four years since I watched this gem, but I loved it especially as a Backlund fan, always great to add another one to his stellar resume. This was a great find of the Yearbook that I have never heard of anywhere else. A lot of people focus on the heat segment, but I loved the shine (Bret was a killer on offense) and the finish maybe the best Bulldog has ever looked on offense.
Bret Hart & Davey Boy Smith vs Owen Hart & Bob Backlund - WWF Action Zone 2/26/95
Can the Harts (along with Backlund) outdo the Kliq? Thought the shine was great because it really established the babyfaces as dominant and Bret as pissed off. As a big Backlund fan, it was so weird to watch Backlund lose a suplex struggle to Davey Boy. Bret was hitting anything that moved. I loved how liberally Backlund was interfering. Bret was basically taking them two on one and kicking ass because he was so pissed about Survivor Series '94, the original screwjob. So it makes sense Backlund has to resort to tripping him from outside and wrenching his knee. Awesome heat segment working the leg. Thought Backlund was not great, but Bret/Owen killed it. I thought they could have used some more hope spots and more moments for Bret to sell. Like there was almost too much knee work there could have been some more of the other stuff to build drama. Still textbook leg work by Owen, really great. Heel miscommunication and the way Bret stumbled and crawled to make the tag was great. Davey Boy is such a great hot tag, Backlund repeatedly interferes, Bulldog stays concentrated and then sees him coming and double noggin knocker and then sends them into each other. Great finish with Bret applying the Sharpshooter outside the ring to Backlund and Bulldog hitting the running powerslam for the win. Awesome little tag team match. Falls shy of the Kliq match which I thought had the better heat segment with more drama and a crazier finish run. Loved the leg work and simple, elegant finish. ****1/4
