Absolutely fantastic match. Probably the best “young lions” match ever. Long, 20 minute technical match between two young wrestlers kept mostly on the mat before going balls out at the finishing stretch. Great mat work, great execution, a rocking crowd by the finish. This is great.

Everybody stop wasting your lives and watch this. I've just watched it for the first time today so may be getting a bit carried away, but this may be the best GAEA match EVER?
You know the saying that university politics is the most vicious arena of politics because the stakes are so low? Well the WCW Women's Cruiserweight Title apparently makes for the most vicious of matches. Toshie Umatsu won this belt by winning a tournament allegedly held on WCW Main Event in 1997 and is now back in Japan to defend it locally. This is the first championship she's ever won in her two-year career and right from the entrance she treats it like it's the most important thing in her life and will bite a bitch who tries to take it from her.
She literally does bite her.
In terms of emotion Toshie gives such a huge maximalist performance here. Her screaming in agony feels really genuine and gut-wrenching, she sells her injured leg very visibly but in a peculiar way. She sells the injury by getting angry at her leg for failing her and hitting it... That sounds ridiculous but it looks like that's what's happening but it just works. This is a big contrast to the wrestling itself, which is really basic. Most of the match is spent just on the mat.
The finish is just so moving. I feel like anyone can watch this match knowing just the basic background above and immediately get everything about it. I thought this better than any match I saw on Wrestlemania weekend just gone.
****3/4

The ending run of this is fantastic, but I didn't care much for the first half of the match. 1997 GAEA was unreal producing amazing matches by the month, I'd be surprised if this even cracks the top 5.

This has been highly acclaimed for a while now. Loss gave this ***** all the way back in 2013.
