Per Elliot's suggestion, what are some of the best wrestler names ever? Also, what are some of the worst? My favorites in no particular order apart from 1 and 2:

2. Randy Savage
3. Terry Funk (extra points for that being his shoot name)
4. Stone Cold Steve Austin
5. The Rock
6. Hulk Hogan
7. Diamond Dallas Page
8. The Undertaker

Some of the worst that come to mind (most of these are fairly recent):
1. Dolph Ziggler (I remember thinking it was supposed to be a parody of "Dirk Diggler" when I first heard it)

There are a fuck ton of great names in Mexico. Atlantis, Solar, Super Astro, Super Porky, Perro Aguayo, Satanico, El Santo, Medico Asesino, Black Shadow, El Dandy, Fuerza Guerrera, Love Machine, etc etc etc etc Seriously like every luchadore name is fucking awesome. Some of my favorite names yet to be mentioned: Bruno Leopoldo Francesco Sammartino was Bruno's given birth name so he wins this discussion for all time. Screw wrestling, that might be the greatest name in the history of civilization. Johnny Valentine, Wahoo McDaniel, Bronko Nagurski, Buddy Rogers, Gorgeous George, Superstar Billy Graham, Dusty Rhodes, Jushin Liger, Junk Yard Dog, Mad Dog Vachon, Sabu, Low Ki, Sgt. Slaughter, Volk Han, Abdullah the Butcher etc. edit: FUCK HOW DID I FORGET ONE MAN GANG AND LEX LUGER?  ? He also might be the most universally disliked wrestler in our circles but Bruiser Brody is an all time name. For worst, I feel like I could pick any random WWE show from the last 15 years and come up with at least 5 terrible fucking names. Names like "Dolph Ziggler" and "Jack Swagger" are so embarrassingly stupid that it kinda makes you numb to the fact that the guy they've been hell bent on pushing for years could have come up with any name in the world and landed on "Seth Rollins." Sheamus. Heath Slater, Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas, Curt Hawkins, Tyler Reks, Alex Riley etc etc. There are SO many. Edge. That we went from "Dusty Rhodes" to "Cody Rhodes" is pretty damning. So it doesn't just seem like I'm shitting on modern wrestling. Some older names I hate would be: Super Destroyer Mark II, Mr Wrestling II, and Mike Rotunda. |

Yeah Nigel McGuinness is another silly name.
What about Akira Hokuto? That's badass. Same with Aja Kong and Bull Nakano.

More that "McGuinness" is an awesome last name.
Chris Hero is one that should've been a really silly, generic indy name but one that I absolutely love.
And agreed on Hokuto, Kong, and Bull. Bison Kimura and Grizzly Iwamoto as well. Usually using an animal for part of your name works.

For my money, Ravishing Rick Rude is the perfect wrestler name. It's catchy and alliterative, and it tells you everything you need to know about his persona. Perhaps just as importantly, it only works in a pro wrestling context. A lot of wrestler names could be mistaken for a boxer or an NFL player or a rock musician or a comic book character. Someone named Ravishing Rick Rude couldn't be anything but a pro wrestler.

Ravishing Rick Rude is pretty spot on. Macho Man Randy Savage is right up there in terms of just peak names that cover all the bases nintendologic outlined.

Steve Austin on it's own is a bit bland, but there's something about the way Stone Cold Steve Austin just flows and makes it sound awesome
