Steve Austin vs Shawn Michaels (WWF WrestleMania XIV – 3/29/98) Another one of the most famous & important matches ever. Shawn was an asshole at this time and hurt, but this was still a terrific match and worth thinking about.

Second. A gutsy performance from a severely injured Shawn Michaels and, of course, one of the most important moments in US wrestling history.

I will third this, but really more as an iconic moment/turning point in wrestling. I don't think its a good match, but "great match" can be defined a lot of ways.

I see this match very differently to near everyone else here because the 1st, 2nd, 3rd maybe 4th time I watched it, I had no idea Shawn Michaels was genuinely injured. I thought he was just selling really strongly and was putting Austin over. He doesn't really show that his back was injured until after Austin counters Shawn's running attack into a huge back bodydrop over the top rope where Shawn lands backfirst on the floor from like a 10ft drop, which is a totally believable game-changer spot for someone being hurt for the rest of the match.
Not a contender for my list or anything, but I thought this was a very good match each time I watched it. It seems strange to me that I might value it less after knowing Shawn was just genuinely hurt, when there are so many matches (esp older) where apparent consistent selling was just genuine injury but there's no way of us ever knowing.

1) I think this is a dreadful match, though I think Elliott may be right about the importance of the match
2) Oh man, Shawn was in a lot of pain here. It was so obvious
