Yuki Ishikawa vs Carl Greco (BattlARTS - 4/24/98) This is one of the best BattlArts matches ever. No worse than top 10 and a top 5 BattlArts match is not unreasonable. One of the coolest things about BattlArts is that it blends so many different styles. I’ve seen it described as “hybrid wrestling” and “post modern wrestling.” On the whole, that’s definitely true. But this match. This is as true to pure shoot style as they got. Beautiful grappling and mat exchanges that could have easily been in RINGS. Carl Greco in this time period was as polished as the best RINGS wrestlers. His striking is also fantastic, but he is the undisputed mid 90s – early 00s American mat work king. Just outrageously great match. Strong contender for my next ballot. Greco wrestling without shoes made me wish for a universe with time machines so we could have an all-barefoot trio of Greco, Kevin Von Erich & Necro Butcher. Greatest fake team ever.

Second. Good stuff as Ishikawa attempted to weather the mat wizardry of Greco.
