El Satanico vs Super Astro (EMLL - 10/26/1984) Another classic match from Satanico's 1984. This is a great example of Satanico working against a smaller, high flying babyface opponent. These two match up really well. Great character work with Satanico mocking Astro for being so tiny and Astro paying him back. This is another bloody classic from Satanico.

Second
For my own list, I am interested in who has the most matches. Satanico has a real shot. This guy just churns out great matches. I am not saying this is a lock on my list or anything, but it is a worthy nomination. I'll cosign the character work stuff here. Great match, tons of fun.

Third.
This match had blood and Super Astro’s mask got ripped up a bit. Super Astro was very good and did some cool looking moves, but it was Satanico who made this match great. Satanico was a great wrestler for many years, but 1984 was possibly his best year.

If you like good storytelling, watch this match. It's the battle between a vicious sadistic bastard and a small but courageous underdog. It's accessible to uninitiated people to lucha.

I don't get it, maybe I'm the low man on this but this did not click with me at all. Astro was getting his ass kicked for 90% of this match with weak looking offense from Satanico and I thought there wasn't a sense of urgency to this match except when they both got busted. Astro using the flying kokeshi as a offensive move while Satanico is working over his head might be dumb. I didn't like this, it was slow, plodding and if I didn't have to watch it for a podcast I would have switched the match midway through. I didn't like it at all. **1/4

And I like a lot of lucha as Matt can tell you. I loved most of the lucha presented on the show we have generated so far

I'll never forget Satánico repeatedly hitting Astro's face with the lower turnbuckle. One of my favourite wrestling moments.
This match had an excellent heel performance by Satánico and a very good short-term selling performance by Súper Astro, but sadly his long-term selling was non existent, his comebacks came outta nowhere, without good transitions and turning points, and the referee was awful with his slooooooooooooowwwwwwww counts that killed every emotion behind pinfalls. Basically a pretty strong Satánico carryjob, in maybe his peak year, because without his performance this match would have been kinda mediocre, I think, but he made it worth watching.
The two Rocca/Cota matches, Satánico/Koshinaka and Satánico/Atlantis are by far better contenders for 1984 lucha MOTY (I don't remember the Cochisse match as good as those, but I need to rewatch it) than this, but c'mon this is Satánico at his very best. Don't miss it.

Don't miss it. I noticed this on rewatch because I thought there was something I was missing. Super astro wasn't consistent and the slow counts do kill the momentum of the match, I can tell Santanico's greatness but maybe this wasn't a good first introduction

I think Satanico vs Dandy or Pirata Morgan are probably better introductions.

Rewatched this. Still love it. I sort of just co-sign most of the praise. Satanico is just a top notch rudo here. I was really struck by his timing and how well this match builds drama through patience and pacing. It isn't flashy for most part, just gritty meat-and-potatoes wrestling. I suppose I can see how this might not catch one's attention on first watch, but it seems fairly digestable here. It is - as others pointed out - a pretty simple story of mean monther fucker vs undersized babyface. Add a little blood. Add a mask rip. Build the comebacks through great timing. bing. bang. boom... great wrestling. I love this. It isn't really a serious contender for my list, but it is a REALLY great match in my mind.

Yeah I got the story more on second go around because the first go around I was just jarred at the grittiness to say. Not to say I didn't like it but it's an adjustment watching last week's AEW to this sort of thing. I think Greg is gonna hate this one but that's my guess

El Satánico vs Super Astro (EMLL - 10/26/1984) 2/3 Falls We have another Satánico match that’s how great his 1984 is, the match is closer in structure to his match against Atlantis earlier in the year, it isn’t as great as that one but it isn’t far off either, Super Astro is a fantastic masked babyface made even more sympathetic by Satánico’s genius performance, I’m not talking about the brutality his offense provided what made this match standout was the treatment Astro received during the match, how Satánico treated him like a bastly inferior competitor, there’s something very special about it because everyone has been in a similar situation before, it’s difficult to not empathize with him and root for him because of that, Satánico used that to his advantage becoming the most despicable heel in México for the next 28 minutes, I heard criticisms regarding Super Astro’s offense, some people called it ‘‘weak’’, I personally don’t see that, he’s just using high flying moves as a resource to beat his opponent, then the same could be said about Psicosis’ offense but I’ve never heard anyone say that, anyway Satánico is still the highlight of the match bending the rules every time the opportunity arrives and the referee can’t do anything about it, the referee is completely unable to stop him the only one he was fighting against was himself and his greed got the better of him, he wasn’t trying to win he was trying to proof that he was miles ahead of his opponent that night, there’s a moment during the first fall that illustrated that pretty well, Super Astro was down on the ground, Satánico went for the pin but stopped at the count of two giving Astro a second chance needless to say Satánico regretted that, he was pinned minutes later and lost the fall, Satánico ended up losing the match in the third fall after 21 minutes of amazing wrestling.
