Jerry Lawler vs Andy Kaufman (CWA - 4/5/82) You can keep your Floyd Mayweathers or LT’s. This is the all time celebrity match. Andy mocks Lawler & stalls for 6 minutes before Lawler convinces Andy to put him in a headlock. Of course Lawler gives him the famous back suplex and Andy takes a Misawa level bump. Lawler gets himself DQ’d by piledriving Kaufman into oblivion. Andy goes to the hospital. Perfect in all ways.

This featured the best stalling I’ve ever seen in a wrestling ring. Not a second of it felt overdone by Kaufman. And then Lawler’s headlock challenge, allowing Kaufman to hold it on just long enough before giving him a 1990s All-Japan style head-drop suplex. And two piledrivers!!! Kaufman was gold. Kaufman gets taken out on a stretcher and all I could think is how happy he must have been.

Second. It isn't about the match itself it's about how Andy Kaufmann gets what he deserves as a character. RIP Andy Kaufmann.

Jerry Lawler vs Andy Kaufman (CWA - 4/5/82)
Talking about this match is going to be difficult to me considering that the match lasts around 2 minutes, it’s no conventional 2 minutes of wrestling, a lot happens here, if you aren’t familiar with Andy Kaufman (something that I doubt considering you went here on purpose) he is a man often referred to as a comedian but he wasn’t a conventional comedian, in fact, I’d say he’s the opposite of a regular comedian and most importantly his understanding of the wrestling business and style of comedy were a perfect match for Memphis, a match made in heaven as people say, his opponent was Jerry Lawler (no surprises there), he was hated by the fans in the arena which makes the finish that much satisfying, his character is so well constructed, a comedian that thinks he can wrestle against the biggest star of the Memphis territory, Andy Kaufman thinks wrestling is just fake bullshit as Jim Cornette would say so Lawler will prove him wrong, so he’s about to receive a beating in front of the arena, if you didn’t already know how this story ended you’d probably guessed it anyway, he got his ass kicked the Memphis way, he got piledrived and ended up unconscious, exactly what he deserved, it was beautiful, it showed the fans that wrestling matters and their appearance in the David Letterman show was somehow even better than the match in my opinion just for the way it was presented to people that probably hadn’t seen professional wrestling before in their entire lives and had very little understanding of what it was and just for that alone this match is great but if you add Kaufman’s acting to the mix what you get is a masterpiece, a 2 minute masterpiece which is even more impressive in my opinion, they created something that can’t be replicated, something so special I’m completely sure it will never happen again, Andy Kaufman’s early passing was a tragedy for the wrestling business, if he lived just a few more years who knows what could have happened.
