Kenta Kobashi vs. Akira Taue (AJPW - 7/24/96) Kobashi wins the Triple Crown! These two and July 24th go well together. I loved their match from 7/24/95 and think it is one of the great “unheralded” 90s AJPW matches. This isn’t far behind. We often talk about how great Kobashi (and the other Pillars) is offensively and will say things like “Moonsault, powerbomb, half nelson suplex, burning hammer, orange crush, Kobashi chops, lariat, etc etc. But pay attention to his more mid-range offense eg the running knees on the irish whip, the low drop kick on an already fallen Taue, ddts, a big boot, shoulder blocks, leg drops etc is all awesome, well timed & executed, and exciting in a way that keeps the pace moving and match engaging without having to drop all the bombs the whole time. Of course they bring the bombs to win its time. Great worked punch by both guys in this one. Great match. Weirdly underrated. Vastly superior to something like Misawa/Kobashi 99

Oh yeah, easy second. Really one of the most unheralded Triple Crown matches in AJPW history despite being so dang great. Like Elliot said, terrific offensive performance by Kobashi but Taue was a real killer as well.

Third. Better than their 2004 NOAH match.
